Based on past good reviews today on a whim, myself and two more adults visited the Guard Room for breakfast. We sat down at precisely 12 noon assisting my disabled wife to sit down, then collecting three menus from the counter. We promptly agreed on three breakfasts and went to order from the counter at 12.05pm only to confronted by a surly man with the reply they only serve breakfast until 12 noon (We did notice that on the menu). The gentleman followed that up with the comment that they had now switched all the grills off and were now only serving from the lunch menu.. Despite explaining that we were first time customers, I then stated that we would not be visiting again. Even when leaving when I was talking to my wife about an unrelated matter, the gentleman shouted from the counter ‘have you anything to say to me’, my reply being that I had nothing to say to him. We went around the corner to the Boringdon Arms to be served by a very pleasant gentleman, a larger breakfast at the same price, good service, biscuits with our tea and a pleasant environment. As a Plymstock resident since 1972, one can safely assume that I and any friends or family will most certainly be visiting the bori again and not...
Read moreJust wanted to feedback on someone who posted about the price of the bacon roll and that they preferred The Mess Room. In the middle of a Pandemic, think that person should have just spoken to the hard working people in The Guardroom and also they should just be very grateful that the lovely staff are there to supply items to them . On that note , you would be hard pushed to find a better bacon roll any where plus coffee ,lovely . Remember if you consider posting a negative feedback on here , speak to a business first as small businesses like this are doing their very best in very tough times ie a global Pandemic and deserve and should expect our support. Our dog and I visited yesterday after a very long walk and it was an oasis at the end of it ! So thank you all for the fabulous job you are doing and especially bacon rolls, coffees and not forgetting Happy slices ! Keep very safe and looking forward to sit downs in the hopefully not to distant future . 😃. Your regulars love you and will keep coming back 😊. PS .. someone else whinged 5 hours ago … 🙄🙄🙄why don’t you just speak to staff rather than bleat on here .. they all work really hard … and are lovely people .. have a...
Read moreWe are moving into the area and was recommended to try this hidden gem. If you're not told or know about The Guard Room, you are very unlikely to come across it. It sits on the mouth between the river plym and Hooe estuary, and the view out of the wall to wall windows never mind outside on the decking is one of those moments you relish and totally enjoy. We'll we were not disappointed. The staff were very polite and professional, always helpful and gracious. The food was well presented and fulfilling and very good produce. It was a joy to sit and eat, taking in the views. I can't wait to visit this place in the spring/ summer and enjoy the view and atmosphere outside on the decking, and may I say the best latte I have had in a very long time. Parking can be a problem as it is a popular place and parking is at a minimal but there is extra parking entering via turnchaple and parking in the car park at the very bottom and walking through the gates to gain access to The Guard Room. Thank you so much to the staff. we felt so welcomed and looking forward to a future visit, even if it is just...
