RAW chicken in my wife's Shashlick!
Living in Rayleigh, for 20+ years we have dined in Saffron more times than I can remember. Sometimes twice a week! Unfortunately getting older and with life commitments our visits became fewer and fewer until we had all but stopped, preferring a simple take-away instead. Then last year we gave it a try. We had heard there had been quite a change in staff since our "regular" days but wouldn't let that put us off so we went along. We had a nice meal and evening, slightly "matter-of-fact" service but pleasant, so went again a few more times (maybe 2 or 3 more). We were then invited by another couple to go with them for a meal, last weekend. At first the meal was like any other with the similar, formal, unremarkable service but fine. Until we were all appalled to see my wife cut into, what looked like, cooked chicken when she gasped and we could all see the COMPLETELY RAW chicken. We immediately informed the waiter, it was "swiftly" removed from the table and she was offered a replacement - which she definitively declined. A few moments later the manager apologised and offered her another dish, again she declined - her appetite understandably lost now - but I must stress we never complained/made a fuss, just calmly informed them of the issue. Finally a waiter returned and said they would "remove her main from our bill".
Wasn't that "big" of them to remove a dangerously inedible dish from our bill!!
At no point was my wife offered any of her - now unfinished - rice, naan, potatoes to be removed from the bill, nor EVEN a complimentary drink offered to her.
I was so upset with the experience and bringing two guests to the restaurant for the first time. We cannot find it in our hearts to...
Read moreBooked a table at the Saffron over a week before the actual day, and when we turned up to the restaurant which was busy, iam sure they forgot about us was shown to our seat at the last table in front of the door. Ordered our food and poppadoms which took ages to arrive, had to remind one of the waiters that we were still waiting for our food after a very long time. Totally forgot about us.
Food was not great, didn't know if I was eating in an Italian or Thai restaurant as when we recieved the starters there were olives in the salad accompanying the starter and Thai sweet chilli sauce very strange and a bit confusing. Its aTandori restaurant iam sure we'll that's what it says outside.
Loads of red food colouring in the main course I've never had a jalfrezi looking so red in my life better off down brick Lane.
Definitely would not return cmon guys you can do better than that.

Still trying to find that amazing Indian restaurant...
Read moreA one time regular customer of this restaurant when i lived just up the road, i reccomended to a friend and booked a table for a Saturday night. We arrived and were seated. We then waited 15 minutes for our menus and to place a drinks order and poppodums, poppodums and drinks arrived fairly quickly but waited another 20 mins after this for a waiter to come and take our order. During this time we people watched. The restaurant focus was entirely on the stream of delivery drivers for takeaways whilst of the 9 other occupied tables, not one had progressed to starters let alone main course. God knows how long they been sat but general mood seemed to be of dissatisfaction. Needless to say we declined to order further so cant review the food but feel that this once really good resraurant has lost its focus completely I wont...
