I rarely leave reviews but I felt the need after the way I was treated this evening. I took my boyfriend to Yumacha this evening for his birthday. We’d never been before but he’d said he’d like to try it so I booked it as a surprise. We were seated at a table tucked away in the corner by the window and were left quite some time before being asked if we’d like drinks and food. We went for a set menu and chose the items we wanted, costing £23 per person. When we got the bill I found we’d been charged for 3 people so I queried this with one of the waiting staff. She advised that the set menu we’d chosen was for 3 people so that’s why we’d been charged for it, however no-one told us this at the time of ordering. How hard is it to say “yes, you can order this for two, however it’s designed for 3 so you’d be charged for an extra person, is that ok?”. Apparently too hard. The menu isn’t clear, it gives the same kind of guide I’ve seen in many restaurants, such as 2 people usually order X number of items, 3 people would order Y, 4 people would order Z etc. But it doesn’t say SET MENU FOR 3! I begrudgingly agreed to pay as we’d already eaten the food (which I will say was beautiful), only to have another waitress come over and to argue the toss in front of other diners and tell me how it was entirely my mistake!! I told her that we’d never been before and no-one explained that the set menus were designed for specific group sizes, but again, this appeared to be my fault. Yet she told me she assumed (wrongly!!) that I knew how it worked. Which would make that her fault by making incorrect assumptions and not bothering to ask. Clearly if you visit Yumacha it’s up to you to announce you’ve never been before or they’ll just take you for a ride when the bill comes. What happened to basic customer service?? “Have you been here before? No? Ok, well let me explain how it works... we have individual dishes or set menus to choose from... if you’re looking at the set menus, for a couple/group of [insert number of guests] we’d recommend xxxx etc”. It took the edge of a special evening, and now neither of us want to go back, even though we couldn’t fault a single thing about the food, which is such a shame. In a nutshell, lovely food, but ruined by...
Read moreDisappointed, after looking at the menu I was expecting a mixture of Chinese / japanese food. Given Asian food if my favourite I knew I had to try this place. Palce is decorated nicely and we got seen to quickly at the door, got to our table and that's when it starting going downhill. Was placed next to the bar and a works station that sorts deliveries. Somehow, even when located next to the central hub of the restaurant, we was ignored for a long period of time. We experienced slow service. We already decided what to have by the time they finally asked what drinks we wanted but when mentioned we was also ready to take our food order we was told they will be back to take that after our drinks arrive which again felt like another long wait. Food arrived promptly and some of the dishes was excellent ( honey & soy cha siu and prawn toast highly recommended) but I found most of them not living to expectations, vegetable tempura was a thick batter and not light and crispy as it should be. Chicken gyozas somehow tested like indian somosas? (Don't think we got the correct item) The vegetable hot pot was definitely not a hot pot and more like stir fried vegetables in a thickend sauce, and the teriyaki chicken skewers was just below average and not worth mentioning. Was never checked on during the meal and when finished only then was offered more drinks but at this point we had enough and wanted to leave. I had to flag someone down for payment after waiting again for a long time. Not surprisingly, I will not be returning which is a shame as the drinks menu looked and sounded excellent, shame...
Read moreWe came here for my daughter's birthday last week and arrived at 8.15pm. We told them we have some friends joining us who were running late.
We ordered our food and drinks which arrived by 8.40pm. To be honest the food was delicious. We even talked to the staff about being able to cater for a large group dinner for 25 - 30 of us.
When they came to collect the menus at about this time, we asked them to leave them there as someone was on their way.
Friends arrived at 9.05pm and sat down. After looking through the menu, we called one of the bar staff over at around 9.10pm to order and were told sorry, but the kitchen closed at 9pm. We requested them several times to make a simple dish for us, but they said they could not as it was closed.
We then told them that whilst browsing the website, before we travelled from Leicester, it did not say anything about no orders being taken after 9pm. The lady said she would check and came back after 10 minutes to say that it does not say it on the website, but it does on the front cover of the menu. I am not being funny, but I do not go to restaurants to go through the menu cover to cover - the first thing anyone does is open the menu and look at the food items !!!
To make things worse, we were told that dessert could be cooked, but not mains ! Come on guys, we asked at 9.10pm, not 10pm !
Also, I have NEVER in my life been to any restaurant in the WORLD which opens for dinner, bit takes last orders at 9pm !
This was a real shame, because the food was tasty, but the experience left a very bad taste in our mouths. We will NOT...
