Reviewed yesterday If I Could Give Zero, I Would. The Kitchen Seems Unable to Cook Steaks Correctly Wife and I attempted to have dinner at Cote Brasserie this evening. Prawn Gratine & Charcuterie Board starters were adequate. Wife asked for a medium fillet steak with peppercorn sauce & creamed spinach side. I asked for a medium rare sirloin with tomato salad. At first attempt, wife was served with a bloody, rare fillet that she couldn't accept. I was served with a medium-well done sirloin that hardly held any sign of pink anymore. The manageress agreed with our complaints, apologised and offered to try again. We gave the benefit of the doubt and said OK. 25 minutes later, after eating the tomato salad & creamed spinach, we asked how long before the next attempt would arrive? "Just coming" apparently. A few minutes later, another, even more bloody, even rarer fillet and another even more over-cooked, well done sirloin arrived. My wife couldn't eat the 2nd fillet either and passed it over to me, after I rejected the tough 2nd sirloin offered and commented that I was still quite hungry. The manageress said that the kitchen cooks to a meat thermometer reading and you get what the thermometer says. My wife then said that the peppercorn sauce was watery and also disappointing. The manageress apologised and offered to remove an item from the bill. We were presented with a bill of £52,71 for correctly presented items of 2 starters and 2 beers and included £5.86 "optional gratuity" which I refused to pay. The establishment seemed to have little atmosphere, the waiter was rather arrogant and I really should have suspected something might not be right, after perusing the large range of menu choices that very few restaurants seem able to serve, whilst maintaining decent quality. Sadly, Cote Brasserie seems to be yet another over priced, characterless establishment that just doesn't seem able to cook...
Read moreExceptional food, second time I have visited and on this occasion my wife joined me. I would give the service 4 to 4.5 out of 5, not because there is anything wrong with it...it's just that the food is so good, bringing the service up a notch from very good to another level up would make for a truly sublime experience. Just those finer points... noticing the empty beer / wine bottle could be removed from the small table. Pouring water into the glasses rather than just leaving bottle plus glasses. Not discussing shift patterns within earshot of the table.
There is always a noticeable difference between waiting staff who truly enjoy their role, and almost share in the experience of creating a special moment for and with the diner, and those who are performing a role because it is 'their job' for the night - who switch certain behaviours on and off when at or away from the table they are serving. Little details that in a way "don't matter' if focused on the food (which again, is amazing here)..but I want this place to continue to succeed and go from strength to strength, so I'm making these comments in the hope they make the team consider how to make things even better still. As things stand, you won't be disappointed at all and I do recommend this restaurant...
Read moreWe reserved a table to celebrate getting married at Bridgford Hall. We asked if we could be seated somewhere snug as there was only the two of us. The lady we booked with said that was not a problem. When we arrived we were greeted with congratulations and sat in a very cosy nook in the corner by the window - it was perfect! On the table was a congratulations card from the restaurant, we couldn't believe it was such a thoughtful touch. Then we were brought a glass of fizz by the very lovely Jimi (I'm sorry if I have gotten his name incorrect) he was just excellent. We ordered cheese souffle, which was delicious and my husband has crab maison which he really enjoyed. For mains, we had beef bourguignon which was just so tender and flavourful and steak frittes which was a huge hit! The dessert was a chocolate torte which we shared and had coffee. Jimi then brought us a plate that had congrats written on in caramel sauce and a raspberry macaron. We can't thank all the staff enough for making such a special day even more enjoyable with delicious food, great service and thoughtful touches. We love visiting Cotes for birthdays and special occasions but this was just fantastic - thank...
