Myself and my two brothers were looking forward to a nice meal as a midweek get together treat. What a disappointment the early evening turned out. After being shown our table and viewing the menu, we decided on two carvery’s and the set gammon meal. We waited for the waitress to return but eventually gave up and then stood at the empty bar for a further 5 mins to make our food & drink order. We paid the extra for the “pigs in blankets” and upgraded to the regular meat price, plus the gammon meal. After some time sitting with our carvery vouchers and giving the kitchen time to cook the the gammon meal, with no further sign of the waitress , two of us then headed to the carvery bar. We stood at the serving section looking at the small remains of the meat joints & dry looking veg. After quite a wait the “chef” appeared and took our vouchers , to then say “there’s no pigs in blankets , you’ll have to get a refund at the bar !”. He then had to be reminded to carve more meat as he gave us the small meal selection , with some glib explanation that he’d got confused . We chose what veg looked edible and not to dried/baked out and returned to the table. Unfortunately there was a party of 16 being seated right adjacent to us and the noise was chaotic so we asked to move tables . Now sitting next to the entrance door we began our meal as my elder brothers gammon had arrived. I must say his meal looked great and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Our was the complete opposite , the meat was dry and tough (I’d chosen the beef, my younger brother had opted for pork & beef) the stuffing cubes were totally hard and inedible, the veg (roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower etc ) were all hard and obviously leftovers reheated . I could only eat a small sample of my meal and left it . My younger brother did attempt to eat his but also eventually gave up. We then decided to get more drinks to help the digestion of a very poor meal. Again having to wait at an empty bar and eventually gave up as it was impossible to find any staff to serve. 20 mins later we eventually found a member of staff and did manage to get a refund on the none existent “pigs in blankets” . All in all , we found the carvery a total flop, the staff disinterested and a complete lack of management or teamwork . I for one shall not be returning...
Read moreThe staff are AMAZING; can I just put that out there first please. So cheerful and very welcoming to my friend and I. The utter let down though was the carvery. I paid for a regular, there was no beef, I was left with turkey or gammon (why does nobody serve pork anymore?). I chose the gammon and although highly delicious, there was VERY little of it served. Yes your Yorkshire puddings are big and crispy, but they’re also BLAND. Just like your vegetables. Overcooked mush which has had no seasoning in their cooking. The lack of the gratin potatoes as advertised on your website was as disappointing as not getting some beef or alternative to turkey/ gammon. Cauliflower cheese, it was cauliflower in a ‘minimal’ white sauce without a hint of cheddar about it and again unseasoned, so without the cheese to help it along it couldn’t stand. The red cabbage, became palatable with the extra addition of further cranberry sauce from the condiments table (which I have say, your cranberry and horseradish sauces are the really bom-diggy) - but it was not enough. Your roasts weren’t crispy, they were leathery (why a fascination with crispy exists today over taste, I’ll never know). As someone who grew up witnessing starvation in the world, I think it is criminal to leave food on your plate - but on this occasion I sadly had to or I know I would have been sick in my stomach for the night. All - in - All I paid £10 for a couple of slices of nicely cooked, tasty gammon. Oh and the sherry trifle cheesecake - delightful, but a shame it is served with squirty cream which had turned to weak milk by the time it reached my table. Shame it’s not real aerated cream as it would have been an absolute...

At firat everything was loverly, we ordered our food, I used my blue light card to get the extra 20% off but the bill was still over the expected. When my mum (who is a headteacher) saw we were overcharged by nearly £20 she went in to tell them but was told no due to the blue light card. My mum had said no as it still should of been cheaper without the use of the blue light card and when the staff member disagreed eventually she said she would run it through the till again. My mum is not an aggressive person and again a headteacher so has a very professional manner in all aspects (it actually drives me mad at times being her daughter) my mum had enough at this point and said dont worry about it, you will only scam me once we shall not be back. A few moments later the manager comes out and says that my mum was correct and would she come back in with her card to refund the difference. My mum then handed us her card (shes just had a knee replacement and is struggling atm) when my brother went in she had said to my brother that if my mum comes back and shouts at her staff again she will be barred! My mum is not a shout person she uses her intelligence rather then a shouting match. My brother stated she was wrong as our mother is not like that and she would not shout and that the staff should not be doing 'they are right and we are wrong' straight away without checking the order first.
Nevertheless it was a loverly steak meal but unfortunately due to staff being untrained and unprofessional we shall not be returning which is a shame as there food...
