We'd been looking forward to having our final day out of 2023 and dining at Ardnamurchan after having looked at the menu and thought it was wonderful.
We ordered some cocktails to start (the chocolate orange espresso martini and the Kelpie Crush).... The Kelpie one was ok if a little heavy on the OJ... Genuinely wouldn't have known there was alcohol in it, so I suspect what was in there was a very small measure. The espresso martini just tasted like burnt coffee, which was a shame.
We ordered our starters, and after a little while, a member of staff came out to tell us one of them was unavailable... Not ideal, so we settled on an alternative.
We were then visited again to tell us that the side we should get with our main was only available for one of us, so again, we chose an alternative.
We were then offered bread and olives by means of an apology, which was decent, but the olives were a little sad with no bite at all.
The starters arrived, and they were OK. We had the black pudding fritters and langoustines... The garlic butter on the langoustines was delicious.
Then our mains arrived... We both opted for the venison Pave and couldn't have been more disappointed. The meat itself was grey, chewy, overcooked and unpleasant - we ate most of it as we were starving but it was a challenge to chew. The mash alternative was clearly microwaved as it had this weird outer coating to it and wasn't soft and delicious. The potato dauphinoise was like a door stop with none of that creamy loveliness you'd expect... it was dry and almost entirely solid... As it turned out it had been sitting since the previous day.
We said to the staff about the meals and recieved one of the venisons for nothing (even though both were terrible)... We were also offered desserts/tea/coffee on the house.
We ordered the tiramisu which didn't taste like chocolate orange at all but was still quite tasty and the sticky toffee pudding which actually was delicious.
We then got the bill and had been charged for the puddings so... yeah.
The wine selection was pretty decent to be fair.... However there's two issues with the wine... One was that I asked for one large and one small glass and both were the same size - the woman next to us also asked for a small wine which was the same size as ours so... Theres something not right there. The second issue is that I did enjoy my glass of wine and have now looked into the bottle which retails at £14.99... I was charged £14.50 for my "large" glass... I understand there's mark up but that's a little ridiculous... I go to Malo and pay about the same for a glass of wine out a bottle that is considerably more expensive...
Overall, it was not a great experience, and we left feeling disappointed and like we'd wasted our lunch outing on a place that didn't deserve it.
Don't waste your time or money here and treat yourself to one of the many many amazing restaurants and dining experiences Glasgow...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep disappointment with the service and overall experience in Ardnamurchan Restaurant where we recently hosted a First Communion celebration for my daughter. Unfortunately, the event did not meet even the most basic expectations, particularly considering the significance of the occasion.
To begin with, it was clear that the staff were entirely unprepared for our arrival. The service was extremely slow—our guests had to wait approximately 20 minutes just to receive drinks. This was just the beginning of a series of issues that unfolded throughout the event.
Midway through the meal service, we discovered that a member of staff had made a significant error: guests who were supposed to receive ribeye steak were instead served fillet steak. This mistake not only disrupted the dinner service but also reflected a lack of attention to detail and coordination among the staff.
The most upsetting part of the experience, however, was the seating arrangement. On such a special and once-in-a-lifetime occasion, it was incredibly disappointing to find that our party was split into two separate rooms. While I was informed at the time of booking that we would have two tables, no one mentioned that the tables would be located in different rooms, separated by a wall. This lack of transparency significantly affected the atmosphere and cohesion of our celebration.
When I requested to speak with the manager on the day, I was told they were not on duty. Later, in an email exchange, the blame was shifted onto me, with the manager claiming that I should have been familiar with the layout of their function room, despite the fact that it was my first time visiting the venue.
To make matters worse, at the end of the event, when settling the bill for drinks (as all other costs, including service, were prepaid), I was asked whether I believed the bill was too high—a question that, given the subpar experience, felt highly inappropriate. I should also note that the service provided certainly did not merit any gratuity.
In conclusion, I cannot in good conscience recommend Ardnamurchan Restaurant for family events or special occasions. The lack of professionalism, poor communication, and substandard service made what should have been a joyful and memorable day a source of frustration and...
Read moreAfter reading many pleasant reviews, my family and I decided to go for dinner at Ardnamurchan to have some Scottish fare before we left for home tomorrow.
We arrived at 7:15 for our reservation and was greeted by a member of staff (could have been management) and taken to our table. The restaurant was beautifully presented and the ambience was nice. The member of staff didn’t appear to be especially welcoming.
We waited at least 20 minutes before the member of staff returned to take any orders. Usually we would expect this within the first 5 or 10 minutes for drinks and understandably a bit more for the food order. However, the food and drinks order was taken at the same time, which was unusual in our opinion.
The drinks arrived about 10-15 minutes later and we had no issues with these. The waiting staff were very nice, friendly and professional. We received our starters relatively on time, within 25 minutes. The black pudding starter wasn’t as impressive as I was expecting, it was quite dry and lacked flavour, although it wasn’t unpleasant.
We were then left for just over an hour with no communication, until we decided to ask a waiting member of staff for an update. They informed us that our order should be with us in the next few minutes and apologised. Eventually after about 1 hour 15 minutes, we received our main courses. No reason was given for the delay however staff were apologetic about this.
We generally enjoyed our main meals, although we agreed that they were nothing special and the prices were slightly steep. I had the chicken breast main and it was very tasty, however nothing memorable. My sister ordered steak (medium) however it arrived clearly rare; I asked if they could redo this for me and they gladly complied and quickly corrected this.
At this point there was a tense and stressed atmosphere at the table, as we had waited for so long that we weren’t as excited or hungry for our food as we were before. We promptly asked for the bill, despite originally planning to get dessert. The restaurant offered us a 20% discount, we appreciated that they acknowledged their faults. I don’t know if this was an off night or a regular occurrence, but the time that we waited definitely doesn’t warrant another future visit...
