I had no idea this was a vegan place. Do you know why? Because it's run just like any other bar. It doesn't smack you in the face with 'vegan this' and 'vegan that'. It's an alternative bar that sells alternative food. I go on a Saturday afternoon for an Improv comedy class so it's pretty quiet but I can imagine this place being a riot on a Friday or Saturday night. From the outset, it looks like most other rock/metal bars in Glasgow. It's black; It has heavy music playing through the speakers; There's venue space; And, the staff are all donning the alternative gear. Last Saturday, the barman was wearing a Mayhem t-shirt which certainly bumped up his Black Metal cred. Food and drink are standard prices with a well-stocked bar providing a wide range of beers, spirits, wines, etc. If you want a tea or coffee, you can do so (herbal teas are available) but, for non-vegans, be aware your milk choice is oat or soy. I haven't tried the food but the menu looks appetising and the smell from the kitchen is delicious so I certainly will be trying their food in the future. The fare on offer is quite extensive and I can tell it's been created by people who enjoy their food and want to be inclusive of others and not by people who want to advertise their lifestyle choice whilst narrowing their customer base. So, if you're vegan and a member of the alternative scene and are looking for a place to hang out in Glasgow then look no further than the Flying Duck. Even if you're not vegan and just want a cool place to visit then add the Flying Duck...
Read moreCame here for a live music night to support a friend. Arrived early to have some food first. Looked at the menu and saw classic kebab, bacon ect I was really looking forward to eating....then noticed everything was vegan 🤮. How is a classic kebab vegan? This is new age kebab not classic. Very misleading. Suffice to say I did not partake in that food. Each to their own I suppose but I think they would make more money catering for everyone. Vegans expect other restaurants to cater for them so they should cater for us normal people too, 1 rule for 1 and not the other. Oh well, live and learn I suppose. Beer prices were on average/high end for glasgow City centre. Staff were very polite and welcoming so 10/10 for that. Toilets are unisex with cubicles and open urinals, did not bother me but that could put some people off. On this occasion I went there was no running water in any of the taps so washing hands after hitting the heads was an issue. Good thing covid was around so you could still use hand gel. Free WiFi which was handy as the bars are downstairs in the basement so don't expect phone signal.
Overall it was a friendly atmosphere and a half decent place to go, but unless I'm supporting a friend again I would not choose to go here again, unless they start catering for everyone, this in turn would up profits and depending on the greed of the owners lower the price of the beer.

Read moreNever been for vegan food before so was excited to give it a go and see what it was like... And unfortunately I was hugely disappointed.
Ordered the Vegan Big Mc which sounded lovely and paitiently waited.
I say patiently because after 30 mins I began to think "ok this is getting a bit ridiculous for an £11 vegan burger". IT TOOK AN HOUR TO SERVE ME A BURGER and the place was less than half full. No chips, nothing else, an hour, to serve, a burger. Not only that, but within that hour, two members of staff approached my table with the wrong meal/someone else's meal. When we spoke to staff and asked them to check THEIR receipts for the food, they came back to the table and told us we had ordered on 3 separate checks - which was impossible as we had 2 receipts - and this is why it was taking so long.
Food finally shows up and... Don't get me wrong it was alright, burger was a bit sloppy for me. But FFS, £11 for a burger with no sides, staff implicating that were at fault because they haven't a clue what's going on and generally being a bit rude, an hour wait, and it's only street food!
Don't recommend, won't...
