Con artist - Avoid
I ordered pakora: The waiter encouraged me to order a main as well; to get the £10.95 lunch deal - so I did. Afterward, I got a bill for £23.35 because the main I ordered was not included in the lunch deal - the guy did not communicate that part.
This review would have been much higher if he had not conned me. I could have been back regularly had this not happened: Not now. All he had to do was inform me of my choice, by telling me or showing me the lunch menu.
Otherwise a lovely, presentable, quiet restaurant, which created a good atmosphere (minus the old couple's conversation about all the wrongs in the world).
Pakora was nice. Rice and okra main were small, especially for the price that was charged. Okra dish was oily.
*Update: How I was feeling (health-wise) for the rest of the day suggests that the food here had a very high amount of cane sugar added to it.
My reply to Curry Cottage's response: I am not interested in a complementary meal at your restaurant. My review may be the harsh truth but it is also fair: I gave you a chance to make it right there and then on the day, and you blew it; I pointed out the over-charged bill to the staff member and he outright refused to correct this - I was in dire need of a therapeutic day out that day, which your antics ruined (who cares about health, finances, and stress anyway, eh?) - if only he thought about me reporting it here. Also I said; your oily, sugared food left me feeling unwell, so I don't want to eat it again. I am interested in good food and service in the first place; not a free meal in the hope that I will change my review of what happened - and as I have said; I gave you the chance to make it right...
Read moreCame here for a meal before the theatre and to make use of the discount cineworld offers here. The food was honestly very nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. The staff also were pleasant but the best way to describe our experience was “odd”.
The service took a long time, which is fine as there were customers there at the same time and I got the impression it was just one person serving everyone, but when the server spilled something at our table / on the jacket of the person next to us and on the floor, they didn’t seem particularly eager to clean it up properly. They came back with napkins and sort of half cleaned the table with them but not the jacket or the floor so I had to manoeuvre my way out the table to leave and the person next to us had to use their napkins to clean their jacket too (thankfully was sauce resistant). I got sauce on my trousers, phone and shirt sleeve as a result of this. The server did seem apologetic but I thought it was an odd lack of urgency to clean everything.
Then, when we asked to pay, it took something like 20 minutes for the server to come to us with the bill because he was setting empty tables around us. We asked a second time and he kept setting the empty tables, which was also odd (especially as there was still sauce on our table).
Otherwise the experience was fine - we were just there...
Read more5 stars given for the exceptional food 5 stars given for the wonderful service I’ve only given 3 stars for the atmosphere but to be fair we visited at 6pm on a wet miserable Tuesday night when most places in Glasgow would also be very quiet………and so what? We were here for the superb Indian food!!!! Anybody that enjoys their Indian food should pay a visit to this crackin’ little homely restaurant at the top of Glasgows city centre (very close to the many theatres, cinema and shopping areas). It is owned by the chef and his wife and they make a wonderful team!!! His cooking is THE best and her service is freindly and warming. I can personally recommend lamb karahi and chicken korma but I’ll steadily be working my way through the menu for sure! Negi was once the chef of the once very popular Indian restaurant (just around the corner) at the bottom of Buccleuch St. - I’d imagine the customers have now followed him to his own restaurant. Wise moves!!!! Anyway, do yourselves (and your tastebuds) a favour and pop in for an incredibly tasty Indian meal and thank me later for the...
