Have been to this lovely restaurant a few times, was always impressed with the portions, flavour, friendliness and value for money. Was a wee bit disappointed this time around, the starters and pasta portions were smaller and the ingredients just not of the same quality or taste as before. Three small slivers of brushetta toast topped with small amount of diced tomato and it was mainly bulked out with leaves and balsamic dressing. It was tasty though. The caprese mozzarella ball starter was tasteless and tomatoes bland even after seasoning. The meat was scarce in the Brothers signature meat pasta ragu, the portion was very small for the price despite pasta being inexpensive to source. The sauce seemed to contain mostly cheap ham with hardly any sauce. Im glad I ordered a side dish or wouldve still been hungry I never need a side with pasta, but it was definitely needed. The pesto pasta was much tastier and a bigger portion being vegetarian, but was swimming in oil. Veg options were limited. The choc fudge cake was cheap and mainly consisted of topping, hardly any sponge and the ice cream was cheap and tasteless. Two starters, two pasta mains, a side and a dessert came to just over £50. We didn't have drinks just iced water which they were happy to top up.
The service was pleasant but the staff kept returning to the table to ask about ordering or removing dishes sometimes when we werent quite finished or when we were in deep conversation, it was quiet so maybe they were just over attentive or were wishing to close early. I found it a bit irritating being interrupted, normally waiting staff look for the right cues before interrupting customers.
The meal wasn't unpleasant or worth complaining about, it just wasn't of the same high standard as before for Brothers and was just underwhelming really for the cost. Something just felt off and the place seems to have lost its heart. We all allow for recent tough times but I only made a point of returning because the food was exceptional. It needs to be wary of maintaining its great reputation. I appreciate times are hard for restaurants but they should not scrimp on taste and portions its unfair when you're paying...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this restaurant whilst spending the day in Perth. To be honest, it was the advertised £6.95 3-course special that made up our mind to give it a try; and we are so glad we did!
We dined as a party of 4, 2 of us chose the soup of the day (which was a gorgeously rich woody Cream of Mushroom), whilst the others plumped for the Melon (served with a berry jus) and the Potato Skins (a good sized serving with two dips).
Main courses were a choice of pizzas and pastas. The pasta menu is such that you choose your 'sauce' and then choose the type of pasta you with to accompany it. I picked a seafood tagliatelle, which was flavoursome. The rest went for pizzas, which on arrival, were deliciously light and crisp, with a good amount of topping.
The third course is a choice of tea, coffee, or ice cream. I'm sure some folk will think that's not really much of a choice but to be honest; after the other 2 courses I couldn't have managed anything other than sipping a coffee! The 2 [greedy ones] who ordered icecream; received a scoop of icecream, dressed with berry sauce and a swirl of whipped cream.
The service was relatively speedy, especially given it was a busy sunny Saturday afternoon during school summer holidays.
The staff, on the whole, were lovely; for the most part, chatty, friendly & welcoming. This was however somewhat marred by one particular chap who rather surly and abrupt and actually rather rude. His attitude put a bit of a dampener on our experience and it did cause us to leave a lesser tip than we would have, and is the ONLY reason I am leaving a 4 star review rather than a full 5.
The food, decor & service was great; price ridiculously cheap and we wouldn't hesitate to return - hopefully Mr Grumpy was just having a bad day and won't be so...
Read moreMy wife and I booked a table online the previous evening. We received an email confirming the booking almost straight away. We arrived at our holiday rental in Perth about 30 minutes before we were due to eat, so we dumped our stuff and walked through a deluge to the restaurant, getting semi-drowned en route. When we arrived at the restaurant it was obvious it had been taken over for a wedding. The waitress told us that they hadn't accepted any bookings because of this and couldn't understand how I had received a confirmation. TBF the email did look like an automated reply, with no actual details on it other than saying the booking was confirmed.
So we never actually ate at Broth3ers.
The reason for the 5 star rating is because the young lady said she would get us a table at their sister-restaurant and stepped out into the rain (no coat, no brolly) and lead us 5 minutes around the corner to another establishment! Once there she asked the waiter if he could fit us in for a table for two. To which he replied, rather sheepishly, "er, not really" She took him to one side and a couple of minutes later, a table was found and we were seated - without fuss or any hint that we were imposing.
When things don't go right THIS is how to treat customers!
A separate review will follow for the place at which we actually ate.
Thank you to the young lady who went so far out of her way to ensure that two strangers, who wound never become repeat customers (we live about 300 miles away) were looked after following some minor...
