I visited restaurant at 12:00 noon. I didn’t have booking, however the restaurant was absolutely empty (3 tables inside and one outside). I was traveling so I went there for a quick lunch. Unfortunately, I was told that there is no space for me as everything is booked. I asked if the waitress can check in the system if she has any table for 30-45 min for one person for lunch. She said she doesn’t need to check that because she know. She was incredibly rude and not hospitable at all. I asked if I can speak with the supervisor or store manager she again said with rude attitude that both are not present at the restaurant ( at 12:00 noon Tuesday 18.08). Then she asked what is my problem. Her behaviour was extremely bad. I when then for lunch to next door Cridos restaurant where I was very welcomed. I spend in the other restaurant 1h and I had a good view for the garden of yours restaurant which again was super empty! I feel extremely disappointed with the quality service and the whole situation. I hope that review will be noticed by the store manager. I wouldn’t recommend that place for eating as the staff doesn’t know much about hospitality!
Kind regards Jake...
Read moreCame here first because it was close to where we were staying. Came again because the food and atmosphere were just great. I'd learned as a child that there has always been a historic link between Scotland and France, but hadn't seen any evidence of it in the modern world. It's here. Seafood bisque - rich, complex flavours, wonderful colour, great rouille to go with it. I had hake with a fennel cream that looked fine, but not exceptional, but the flavour ! Fantastic. It's one of those places where the hum of conversation tells you that people are enjoying themselves. On weeknights there is a Prix Fixe menu - £23 or so for two courses, £30 for three, and the Chateaubriand steak is on offer (£50 ish with wine.) Great value for great food. Interestingly I think that in Perth the presence of possibly three good French style restaurants is pushing up standards, rather than a race to the bottom on price....
Read moreCafe Tabou used to be grand when (years ago) you could get a simple but superb steak and chips for about £12. France still manages to do a ‘menu du jour’ lunch for that. Now it’s 6 mouthfuls of venison and a dollop of beautifully presented, admittedly tasty sauce - for £20. Sides look as though they’re extra only for the steaks. Clearly not, yet, weirdly, plat du jour come with veg. I finished, still ravenous, in easily under 5 minutes. I’ve been twice in the last month and the food is good but expensive; there is better value around. Portions seem to vary wildly depending on whether you have the plat du jour or not. Service pleasant though overconfident and not that alert despite it not being packed to the gills (on Monday lunchtime) - I had to ask several times for water top-ups. Will not be rushing...
