There is no way I was going to leave Moffat without saying a little something about my experience in this little gem of a restaurant, situated on the exit road towards Selkirk. After a desperately long and arduous journey from London (8:15 hours), I was famished. I was directed to this establishment by one of the locals, with a "warning shot" that it might be a little late to get a table, as it was always very busy, that statement in itself was a good sign . When I got there it was absolutely "heaving"no chance I thought,as I was approached by some smartly dressed gentleman....i'm afraid we are fully booked tonight sir. Seeing i was looking a little stressed,he asked me if I was on my own, yes I replied, give me one moment please, two minutes later he returned. Sir there a little area near the servery... if you take a seat sir and would like a wee drink,I will be able to accommodate you in about 15 minutes (result). I was eventually seated 10 minutes later by a lovely lady, she told me that it had been an exceptionally busy evening....I apologised at being late she replied ....nae bother....and NAE BOTHER it was. I had the most amazing meal of Medium rare steak (done to perfection) with perfectly cooked vegetables ..crunchy and very palatable. My indulgence continued, with a generous helping of Chocolate Gateau.,and another glass of fruity wine stunning. The service can never be faulted...... To the Community of Moffat....you are very fortunate to have this fantastic "oasis" on the gateway to your Beautiful Country . The Gentleman who greeted me? He was the Manager. A great example of how to market and protect your business . As for the Local who showed me the place .....i'll buy him a pint when I see him...
Read moreThis restaurant is conveniently located near the centre of the village, with its own car park. It's decorated in a traditional Italian theme, and the food is reasonably nice. We booked a table for a Saturday night, and enjoyed some antipasti and some of the nicer wine from the menu. However, we then asked to share a pizza for main course, because we weren't hungry enough for one each. The staff created a bit of an issue about this and said that ordinarily they don't allow customers to share a dish on a weekend, and that each diner must usually order their own main meal. After discussion, they reluctantly let us share the pizza on this occasion, but I wouldn't return because of the awkwardness of the situation. I understand where they are coming from, but as I mentioned we ordered wine, mixed antipasti and bread too, so it was obvious that we weren't just trying to spend the minimum possible. Overall, it was fairly priced for what we ordered, not excessive...
Read moreWent to this restauarnt after reading the reviews as we were only in Moffat for two nights. The first night they were fully booked which is always a good sign but they squeezed us in for the Saturday night. This was one of the best Italian meals I've had in the UK, just superb. I went for the steak, again having read the reviews, and also being very hungry. I like mine medium rare and it's not often I get it like that, but this was spot on. My friend had sole which looked excellent. Staff were great, wine excellent and chairs made out of heavy wood I could hadly move mine. It's a funny old building, the old jail I believe but forget all that: the main event the food is done very well indeed. If I lived in the area I would be a regular...
