I've decided to try this place out after I heard many good things about it. The coffee was one of the best I've had, albeit on the smaller side. In terms of food, I sampled several sweet treats, and I've gotta say they were all delicious and not at all overhyped. I especially enjoyed the carrot cake.
Now, getting to the stage of actually trying those things was another story. There was a bit of a queue out the door, however it moved super fast so no complaints at all. Before I knew it, it was my turn. Problem is, I've never been here before so I didn't exactly know what they had on. I tried to do my best to check the display while I was in the line, there's those little cards in front that say what everything is. Except, they were impossible to read without getting up close and personal - the font they used was something ridiculously tall and narrow, and if it ever met Calibri in real life it'd probably fatshame it. Pretty enough I suppose, but screw you if you want to see anything from over a meter away, and no, my vision is perfectly fine, thank you very much. So there I was, trying to actually choose something while it was my turn to order, and boy was the staff member not amused. You know that episode in Seinfeld, with the soup shop? I was sure I'd get banned for life, "NO SOUP FOR YOU" style. Got such a stare that I'm still not sure if it was filled with contempt, or if it's just a case of an RBF, who knows at this point, but brrr. I really rather wouldn't have dawdled at the counter either you know, I've done my time in customer service, I know how annoying it is. Suggestion - maybe scribble down some of your selection on a board outside or something, and please please please make the label cards easier to read from afar.
I will reiterate that the food was lovely, maybe even lovely enough that I will return at some point, but I'm pretty sure I will need to rehearse my order for at least an hour prior...
Read moreSo on Saturday I thought hmmm buy a selection of cakes to take home for my family. three cakes £7.50 lovely. Got home and my son opened the box to eat his carrot cake to find a little black mite scurrying around the box. He squashed it and I thought he was being silly. I went to look and get my own cake to find another tiny black mite. I phoned the shop and took the cakes down to be told it was chocolate, granted the mite was no longer there, as it was probably munching on my frangipan blueberry tart. The man was rude and suggested I was seeing things. So in Cottonrake you get chocolatewith legs. This makes their cakes special, so special I am contacting the enviromental agency to check this out. No refund, no acknowledgement of my complaint I was just made to feel like a liar. Needless to say I will not be back! Thanks Cottonrake, you may see this on several social...
Read moreVery small little bakery off the road. Not much sit in room. But saw this place recommended a bunch of times on Reddit. It’s a little bit away from the train stations so I took the subway over. The coffee I would say was just okay. My group got a cappuccino (they mixed it up and gave a latte), and a chai, and an americano. All three were good but nothing to rave about. The highlight for us was the bakery! SO good. We were talking about these sweets all day! And recommended to a few of my friends also. We got a blueberry tart (had almonds- so yum), a white chocolate and raspberry tart (probably my fav thing), and a few sandwiches. These were the only sandwiches/ actual food available. But all of it just hit the spot!! Would definitely go back for the bakery! And the bread was baked fresh, the place...
