Been coming here for quite a while for dinner with my wife and two year old daughter. It's usually been excellent however a visit yesterday at approximately 5pm, figuratively speaking, left a sour taste in the mouth.
My little one often likes to wander round and really enjoys looking at and touching for a minute or 2 the 'computer' (fruit machine). Whilst doing this with my wife yesterday they were abruptly told off by a member of staff because it's against the law for under 15s to touch such a machine. This 'law' evidently needs greater publicising as my little one has regularly done this in The Granary and many other establishments over the past six months. No staff member in The Granary or elsewhere have bothered in the slightest.
Coincidentally, a few minutes later the same member of staff, who moments earlier had taken my order and charged me for it, when bringing our food over from a serving latch initially brought four of our six small dinner plates over to us but didn't notice two more arrived shortly after this.
As I watched my food sitting there for six minutes, which I timed, the member of staff stood at the bar, approximately three metres from it, huddled in conversation with three other staff members oblivious or ignoring the fact our dishes were getting cold before bringing them over.
Despite taking our order and belatedly bringing it all to us the staff member who repeatedly walked past our table whilst we ate at no time demonstrated the courtesy to ask us if our meal was satisfactory or not. Before we had finished and with some food still evidently on our plates she came over and asked if we were finished which we explained we were not.
As we got up to leave the same staff member began collecting our plates from the table again before we'd started to put on our coats. She did so without uttering a single phrase such as asking if our meal was satisfactory or wishing us a pleasant evening, a standard courtesy in the vast, vast majority of food serving bar/restaurants.
On this occasion we were given no children's menu or crayons to occupy our little one. Another standard courtesy in food serving bar/restaurants.
I'm scoring The Granary 3/5 because our usual experience with older, more experienced staff has been excellent and the bar and kitchen workers have always been top notch in previous visits often checking on our wee one repeatedly and giving complimentary ice cream to her after her meal.
After this experience yesterday despite the excellent service provided by all staff members previously we probably won't return for food or drinks due to the service we received from one...
Read moreWent into The Granary last night, the 16th of June, after work for a pint and feeling hungry I opted for a Peperoni Pizza which I had previously tried and enjoyed. I paid the +/-11:50GB Pounds, in advance. Instead of the tasty Pizza which I had been expecting I was served up a Thin Focacca (Stet) Bread with Peperoni on it. Tasty as it was, it was like a starter instead of the Mains Pizza I had previously had. When the matter was brought to the attention of the acting management I was informed that the complaint would "be brought to the attention of Upstairs management". As I was hungry at the time and had paid in advance I ate the food but was underwhelmed by the portion of food for the price and therefore cannot recommend it at this time. (In response to the Reply). I apologise if you were offended by my choosing to voice my right to review as an afterthought. I do not believe that any of the positive reviews that The Granary has often received are wrong, I explained, reasonably, I thought what I found to be wrong on that evening. The somewhat dry response I received to my review mirrored the management attitude shown to me at the time. I stand by my earlier comments about the size of the meal offered and the sense of having not received value for money and hope that the Management and Kitchen get back on track. P.S. There was also no offer made to make...
Read moreMy partner and I often come to the Granary to watch football, usually on Sundays and were there yesterday to watch Liverpool. There were no tables and my boyfriend asked a guy sitting on his own if we could join to watch the match. He said no problem and so he went to order drinks at the bar. As he approached the bar, the "manager" aggressively told him he was not allowed to talk to customers to which he replied that he was also a customer and he shouldn't dare talking to him like that. I joined him at the bar to see that the conversation had escalated and as I tried to also say he should not treat us like beggars, the "manager" told us to leave as he wouldn't serve us. Regardless of the reason behind the "manager" not wanting us to sit with that specific person, the way he spoke to us and how he flipped was totally unacceptable. Needless to say I instantly sent a complaint to the Mitchells & Butlers as we were aggressively and unfairly discriminated against, treated as we were bothering or begging for money and kicked out as if we were stealing. Disgraceful to see this type of discriminatory behavior in a great, young, diverse neighborhood in 2022. I will be back as I am a regular customer who expects a proper apology from the ignorant and unprofessional young man who spoke to...
