Had waited a while for this...and having had many an afternoon tea in my time my expectations were high...especially as it was the Cameron House Hotel....an old haunt of mine back in the day. However it was as dull as the weather outside and as tasteless as the crockery it was served on. I could have cried ... especially as I had travelled over 130 miles for the pleasure. It's The Cameron House for gawd sake...where was the innovation, the temptation...indeed some flavour would have even been welcomed..so desperate was I for it to be worth the journey. It was in beautiful surroundings surroundings in the Boathouse looking out on the iconic Loch Lomond ..but the restuarant was virtually empty but the still chose to put us in the armpits of some fellow diners. We asked to move so we could at least see the view and ended up virtually in the kitchens but at least we had a window. Three slimline sandwiches each produced one good salmon one and one with cucumber and I'm sure the third was made up of the type of ham in a tin that your gran used to 'keep aside' for Christmas. The small cakes were tired and had seen better days..fortunately the scones saved the day. If I had paid £30 a head for this (it was a gift) I would have had to have some serious words with the boss but instead I left feeling sad that the level of cuisine had gone so far downhill. The biggest disappointment though was the lack of creativity. I have been in small cafes and large establishments over the years who have raised afternoon tea to an art form and for half the price. Uninspiring tableware and bits of Victoria Sponge cut into wee squares just doesn't cut it anymore. No wonder the place was empty!

We visit every time we stay at Loch Lomond, however this was a very disappointing experience today. We weren’t made aware that the pizza oven wasn’t on (not sure why) until the waiter came to take our order - by which point my 4 year old had already chosen pizza and got upset when he learned it wasn’t available, which could have easily been avoided if we were informed when we arrived. The sharing plates we ordered mini pretzels and haggis BonBon. The Haggis was undercooked and a suitable portion for one person, the mini pretzels were just simply a bag of salted pretzel chips you can buy for 50p. Most disappointing was our mains, the macaroni cheese was bland and the battered fish was quite greasy and very small! Usually a winner but for over £75 we were left disappointed and hungry. I’d love the see this place thrive, please review the portion sizes or adjust prices accordingly and consider offering a children’s menu in the future.

Disapointing experience overall, but the biggest shock was the Starters. Serving soggy pieces of torched Hovis loaf as "Bruchetta" in a restaurant in the grounds of a 5 star hotel is NOT acceptable. The restaurant setting is nice and the views are lovely but it was being run by staff who would have been out of their depth working in TGI Fridays. Table booked for 19:45, seated at 20:10. Long wait for drinks - several ingredients for cocktails unavailable. Long wait for starters. 2 options unavailable. Long wait for mains. 2 options unavailable. Didn't bother with deserts. 3 out of 5 options unavailable... Also, the menu online is not what you will be presented with in the restaurant. Your options are far more limited. If they are even available.

The food was exceptionally good, especially everything with fish in it. This is a place to visit if you want to eat good fish. They've a vegetable platter in the sharing starters that is strangely poor quality among other wonderful dishes. We ordered a veg platter and a fish platter, and the fish was outstanding. Delicately balanced with dressings and garnishes, while the vegetables were all ice cold straight from the fridge and prepacked hummus. Even revitalising the veg on a grill or in a microwave could have made it feel a little less like a supermarket meal deal item. Nonetheless, the rest was very good... when it arrived. We had booked our table, but waited 15 minutes past that time to be seated. We were early, so spend 25 minutes in the lounge on a very warm day and were not offered a drink or even a drinks menu. When seated, we were handed a menu and asked for drink orders whilst the menu was being handed over, though we'd had no time to look at it. Our order was eventually taken once we beckoned someone and we waited almost 1 hour for the starters. One of the reasons we were disappointed, with it being all cold and simply needing plated up. The mains were a reasonable time later, approximately 15 minutes and all delicious. What struck me was the lack of communication from staff. When things are running late or not going well in the kitchen, a simple tap on the shoulder and letting us know there's a hold up would have helped. As it was, once we had waited past what felt like a reasonable time for our starters (none of which needed cooking, just plating) we spend around 30-40 minutes staring towards the kitchen at every plate coming past. I suspect they were short staffed, or short of the right staff, so we will return and hope to be able to give 5 stars, as they certainly have the potential. The staff we interacted with with pleasant and they were on the ball with gathering track and trace information, sanitisers, distancing etc, so we...

Such a disappointing visit recently. To start with, we waited a long long time for drink (they didn't arrive until the main courses came). When it came to ordering, there were no vegan/dairy free vegetarian options, which is pretty shocking in 2021. Shared the veggie sharing plate for a starter minus the mozzarella, which was not so substantial, crackers and cold antipasti - finger food. Ordered the Vegetable Ragout with polenta and asked for it to be made vegan (it had feta originally). When it arrived, I took a few spoonfuls and immediately detected dairy from the taste (was left with a sore stomach for the evening) asked for it to be checked, and on the waiters return I was told there was cream and butter in the polenta, it was remade and Brought back by the time everyone had finished their dishes, over salted and the ragout was bland, overly tangy, with near raw veg through it. My mother ordered the black bean burger which was unbelievably dry (vegan cheeses and seitan exists!) with no pulled jackfruit on it. My brother's girlfriend ordered the salmon pizza, which had no ricotta (but an excessive amount of mozzarella), no dill and was still doughy and raw in the middle (the kitchen staff did apologise for this). When another round of beers were ordered, the waiter didn't know which beers were which and we waited a further 10 minutes to have our correct drinks. At the end of the meal we ordered coffees, when they were first brought over they were all freezing cold, after telling the waiter, he took them away and the replacements were also stone cold (we assumed it was one person, making them one by one). At the end of the meal, which was a leaving night/birthday celebration, nothing was done to make amends and as somewhere our family have been going for years, I have to say I was deeply disheartened and disappointed by the service, such a shame. Won't be returning...

Booked this place for 8 people to celebrate a Graduation. Off to a bad start, no-one greeting guests at arrival and was left standing for at least 5 minutes before a waitress who seemed to have an attitude finally showed us to our table. Service was ok to start with taking drinks and main meal orders reasonably promptly. However when the drinks arrive there was an extra drink that no-one had ordered. The main courses then arrived in dribs and drabs with at least 10minutes(possibly longer) between the first dish arriving and the last one, by which time the fist dishes had cooled noticeably. Food was ok but nothing special. Make sure you check the menu and prices before you go as the costs can quickly escalate. Also we had one guest who likes to enjoy their food and takes their time eating it. This didn't stop the staff clearing the rest of the table leave this one individual still eating, felt completely inappropriate and a clear sign to get a move on. Ordered desert which again was ok but nothing special. Then the fun of trying to get the bill and pay for it. Our original waitress seemed to have disappeared and finally managed to attract a member of staffs attention from the opposite side of the room. Asked for the bill and eventually someone came over with the bill then walked away. I assumed that they were away getting the payment reader but no. Had to finally flag down the "Manager" and asked to pay. He did return with the card reader at least. Spoke to the Manager on the way out and expressed our huge disappointment and clearly stated that this would be our "FIRST AND LAST TIME". He offered an apology but by that time just wanted to get out of the place. No I would not...
