Pepes Piri Piri pleasantly surprised me. My order was a 5 Chicken Wing meal, the wait for the order was quite short, I had to wait outside due to COVID-19 restrictions however that didn’t bother me too much. After I got my order me and my partners had sat down on a bench to begin our meal. The first thing I had were the fries, at first I thought they would be your run of the mill fast food fries however they surprised me by being quite different from any I had ever tried, the fries tasted like a mix between chip shop chips and fast food chips, it tasted lovely. The thickness was perfect, a bit thinner than say Burger King fries but thicker than McDonalds fries also they had friend them very nice with being just crisp enough but not to the point of them being burnt. This brings me onto my wings, the presentation of the wings at first looked quite ghastly and I was contemplating my decision. I then took a bite of one of my wings and in my head I thought “I’m not going to enjoy these” however, these wings turned out to be very nice, after the first bite and when you start chewing that’s when things get good, the sauce is quite nice and the chicken tastes great aswell, there wasn’t anything too booming about them but they weren’t boring either. I should also mention I had gotten the “hot” flavour wings and let me say did they get the spiciness right. The spiciness doesn’t over power the flavour but at the same time it wasn’t completely gone, I could taste it but it wasn’t burning my tongue. The staff are very friendly and nice, they aren’t rude and they know how to treat costumers. The packaging is pretty standard stuff for a fast food place, something I noticed however I was given a small plastic fork and knife which I found quite nice, other places don’t really do stuff like that so I appreciated it quite a lot. One last thing is the inside of the actual place is quite small, there isn’t a lot of seats and not too much room to move, but I will say the inside is very clean and looks quite nice, especially for a place in Musselburgh.
Overall Pepes Piri Piri is very enjoyable, the food is quite nice, the staff are polite and the inside is clean. I could definitely see myself coming back here in the near...

I recently 22/07/2023 I tried the 1/4 peri chicken meal at Pepes, and unfortunately, it left me somewhat disappointed.
The main issue was with the chicken itself, which seemed to be slightly undercooked and size was small from a baby chicken. This made it difficult to eat when undercooked and even harder to pull the meat off the bone. Undercooked chicken can be a major turn-off for customers like me, and it's something that definitely needs improvement.
On the positive side, the peri chips were passable, providing a accompaniment to the chicken. The chips were ok enough, but they didn't stand out as anything exceptional. As I have had peri chips that tasted better. As for the diet coke, it was a standard soda experience, nothing remarkable but not disappointing either.
The salad that came with the meal consisted of lettuce, red onions, and a slice of tomato. Sadly, the tomato turned out to be off, which was quite off-putting. I had no choice but to spit it out, and this experience certainly affected my overall impression of the meal.
Regarding the price, £10.19 for a meal with large chips and a large drink is a bit pricy, however sadden by the lack of quality and the value.
However, given the issues with the chicken and the spoiled tomato, it may not have been worth the cost in this particular instance.
In conclusion, my experience at Pepes was a mixed bag. While the peri chips and diet coke were satisfactory, the undercooked chicken and spoiled tomato were significant letdowns.
I hope Pepes takes customer feedback seriously and addresses these issues to improve the overall dining experience.
As it stands, I'm hesitant to recommend this particular meal at Pepes until these concerns...
Read moreSpend your money in Nando's, much better value for money. The driver attempted delivering our food to the wrong house which meant that when our food arrived it was cold as he was a good way away from the correct address. I then noticed that a couple of items were missing so I phoned the restaurant at 7.35 after receiving my order at 7.33 hoping that the issue would be sorted. I was told that I could drive down to the shop to collect my missing items which isn’t an option for me. It's the 17th of December and I haven’t received any call from the restaurant about items I’ve paid for that were missing on the 3rd of December. I’m disappointed because the last order I had was exceptional, this time round it was underwhelming to say the least. The guy I spoke to on the phone said that he didn’t have authority to rectify the issue that only his manager could, this person wasn't in the place when I phoned. I won't be back, Nando's have my business from now on.
I see your message - I have no missed calls from you for that date (I do from a contact of mine funnily enough). I kept my phone by me for the rest of the evening and tried phoning you a second time for an update, please do not lie, you did not try...
