Food:- Very expensive for the plateful you actually get. 2 courses from a set menu was £25 plus a supplement in my case of £4 for steak (total £29). I ordered (as stated in the menu) "sirloin steak, potatoes and veg", although the steak was an excellent cut of meat cooked absolutely perfectly as I'd asked, it wasn't a very big steak and I am guessing it was around 5 or 6 ounces, came with a small ramekin of chips (not potatoes as I expected), a few leaves of salad (not vegetables as I expected) and a pot of gravy. Very disappointed that my meal was neither what was described in the menu, nor a very substantial plateful either. The dessert I chose was sorbet and this was one scoop of sorbet with a lychee (I think) on top. Considering they wanted the best part of £30 for these very small portions, I don't feel it was anywhere near good value for money.
Drinks:- We ordered a pint of Cromarty "Happy Chappy" and a pint of the Foundry IPA as a shandy (specifically asking for 50/50 lemonade mix) we were charged over £11.50 for both drinks. I understand that local craft beers can be more expensive and do expect this to be slightly above £5 per pint. I am a bit surprised that we must have been charged the price of a full pint of IPA for the shandy though.
Service:- Staff very pleasant and attentive, absolutely no complaints with the service itself.
Atmosphere:- If Live Music is going to be a "thing" in this venue, I'd suggest the owners maybe look into sound dampening of some sort. The walls, windows and ceilings are very high, flat and shiny which just makes the sound from a live band ring and echo into every corner of the building. Myself and my partner were sat side-by-side upstairs, well away from the music and were having to either shout or talk loudly directly into eachother's ears in order to hold a conversation. It was also difficult to hear what the staff were saying when serving our food orders because the music was overpowering.
Layout:- The spiral staircase would benefit from some form of privacy screen around it. When coming down the stairs, we noticed a customer sitting at the counter under the bottom of the stairs. My girlfriend remarked that anyone sitting there could easily look upwards and see more than they perhaps should, if someone on the stairs was wearing a skirt for example.
There's a bit of room for improvement at this venue, but as they are just starting up/re-opening, hopefully they'll sort everything...

Read moreA Sublime Sunday Roast at The Rose Street Foundary
On a recent Sunday visit to The Rose Street Foundary, three of us decided to indulge in the quintessentially British tradition of a Sunday roast. Two of us opted for the roast chicken while one went for the roast beef. Both choices turned out to be exceptional.
The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the meal. The meats were perfectly cooked—juicy and tender, enhancing every bite with rich, natural flavours. But the true stars of the show were the roast potatoes. These were, without a doubt, the very best encountered in the Highlands—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection.
The presentation of the dishes was nothing short of beautiful, making the meal not only a treat for the palate but also a feast for the eyes. The Yorkshire puddings were the only items that did not completely dazzle, but they were still delightful not being home made and did not detract from the overall excellence of the meal.
The staff at The Rose Street Foundary deserves a special mention for their impeccable service. They were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring our dining experience was as smooth as it was enjoyable.
The Rose Street Foundary offers an amazing Sunday roast that stands out for its quality and flavour. It is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the best of Highland hospitality...
