If you happen to be meandering serendipitously along Gt Western Road, you may by happy fault stumble on this little nugget of culinary gold! Nestled inconspicuously among an array of eateries, like the wardrobe of Narnia it opens into a world of deliciousness, without the danger except calorific perhaps. "Are you not thirsty " said the Lion. Papercup coffee beans are the preferred option and I believe their signature espresso bean "Ritual" could be what is served. I am not too sure of that, but I can tell you that the Americano was perfect. On this occasion I had the "Full Scoattish" and friend had the Eggs Benedict. The Organic farm eggs sourced locally with their bright yokes suffused with the hollandaise were beautifully presented; in some places the eggs look anaemic! The meat content of the breakfast is provided by Rogers Butchers, Byres Rd. An award winning traditional butcher that remains in the family after 100 yrs. Not only serving the finest produce but properly sourced by a genuine Master Butcher. They have the bragging rights and the enviable reputation to have provided the best beef for Queen and Pope. That should keep the Neanderthals on both side of the water happy! Perhaps one of its many winning features are the fresh cakes made daily by the pastry chef. These calorie free cakes (Okay, that might be a lie), definitely match the skill set and professionalism of the Head Chef. On display were freshly made Strawberry tarts and proper New York Cheese cake - reminded me of "Juniors" on 49th Street. NYC (Yes, it's that good!). A visit there will require a wee dance on 42nd Street afterwards to burn off a few poons! A well trained staff who understand the power of attention to details, will welcome you and despite their youthfulness are a thriving and learning front of house team with their own aspirations. The quality of the chef; the excellent produce; the competitive pricing and considered menu; the staff and the the ambience they create will make this a go to place for students and the young at heart alike! While they may not have a Michelin star like their neighbours further down the road, they are punching above their weight and I highly recommend you...
Read moreI had my eye on Serendipity West for a while and chose it for my birthday brunch. We were lucky to get a table straight away as it was busy and were seated by the amazing cake display which had me looking forward to our meal. I went for the Hong Kong pancakes with pecan and banana and my partner had the hot honey chicken sandwich. My daughter had a small plate of french toast bites with dulce de leche. Whilst my partners sandwich was insane, my french toast was dry as a bone. The knife wouldn't even go through the edges of the bread. I managed to eat the inside part but the bread had no flavour. The bacon was delicious and I used my daughter's maple syrup to moisten the bread a little. The bites were soaked in syrup so my daughter found them too sweet and didn't eat much. The server noticed I had only eaten through the bread and asked if it was dry. 10% was taken off the bill. Having read reviews it seems the dryness of the french toast has been an ongoing issue so ashame I was left disappointed when I had so looked forward to dining there. The staff were all friendly and the coffee is great! Plenty more on the menu I'd try but at the price, I'll stear clear of the...
Read moreI have been In Serendipity twice now and look forward to my third visit. It s a very small venue, but so cosy, warm and friendly - you feel at ease very quickly. The staff cannot do enough to ensure you have all you need, I was impressed with how attentive they are, even when busy. As for the food, I’ve always had vegetarian options, which have all been absolutely delicious and made fresh to order. My daughter has had other options (the honey chicken sandwich being one of them) and said it was amazing. My friend had the sausage and butter bean skillet and raved about it too. As yummy as the main menu is - the pastry section is absolutely stunning. I believe they have their own in-house pastry chef and it shows. We all shared a selection of cakes and pasties including a mini strawberry and white chocoate cheesecake (my personal favourite), strawberry tart (glorious), spiced apple and walnut cake, treacle tart and brownies. All delicious! The coffee was fab too. I cannot fault this beautiful venue, I hope it continues to grow in popularity and more and more people stumble upon this hidden gem in the heart of the West End. Great staff too! Well...
