Yet another experience that's going to remain evergreen in my memory. Here in Glasgow we have arrived at the time of the year that's accompanied by incessant rains and strong winds. Something that constantly tempts you to walk into a cafe for some hot chocolate or a nice hot cup of coffee. Sonny and Vito's Deli is that wonderful little outlet that not only houses the most hospitable and kindest of staffs but also very prompt and efficient. I arrived there this evening with my mentor. She has been to this place a number of times before but it was my first visit and I have already put this cafe down on my repeat-visit list. After settling down, we ordered a cup of hot chocolate for each of us and the look of it alone deserves a 10/10. The taste was amazing too. We were both famished so we went for a portion of soup that came with bread and butter. In addition to that, we had ordered a tart alongside veggies, salad and chicken sandwich with avocado, red pepper and cheese. The soup was out of this world because it reminded me so much of home. It was a lentil based soup which had some spices in it that made it taste like Indian home made dal. It was nostalgic for me. I couldn't stop praising it. The owner of this establishment is very attentive and friendly. Very kind. I could go on and on about this place but in short, I and my mentor had a great time and came back really happy and full. I can recommend this place- in a heartbeat- to anyone who's looking for awesome food with amazing ambience. Check...
Read moreThe world is going through a period in which many leaders in a variety of Industries, Politics. Big and Small Businesses are being led by woofal people with low intelligence and no gravitas. Perfect example today. Service from the staff excellent, food excellent, King Dong drilling plant pots on the one of two tables in the Sun. I requested if I could sit at the only other table in the sun, king Dong didn't look up and or stop his open heart surgery on his plant pot, arrogantly replying "aye". My coffee and juice arrive. King Dong continues with his surgery. Particals of dust on my clothes in my drinks. King Dong stops his life saving surgery as I thought just in time the arrival of my excellent very expensive breakfast. King Dong then appears with another plant patient and starts drilling again.i moved to the other tables in the shade, wind and cold. Superb leadership skills from a very arrogant man, who seems to think he owns a Titan of a business. Staff are a reflection of him, however some staff are excellent like the team that were on today. Paid my bill tipped the staff. King Dong had stopped drilling at the table. Why because he was having his breakfast in the sun at one of the good tables. Still Game cast said it all...
Read moreThis is one of my favourite places to work and have a cup of coffee. The vibe is perfect and most of the staff is very friendly. Also, the olives and dressing side is to die for.
BUT the sandwich quality is really, surprisingly poor. I've had a few of their selection now, and it's actually shocking how bad they are. For £7-£10 a pop, there should be some actual work put into making them edible. You'd be better running out and making your own sandwich on the walk from Tesco to Sonny and Vitos, honestly.
Don't serve sandwiches if you can't make them! OR lower the shockingly high price for what is essentially the cheapest looking bread on bread in the west end.
Forgive this rant, but I still can't believe just how awful the goat's cheese sandwich was - it was just two big, very VERY dry pieces of bread with three large chunks (chunks! not even spread or cut up or anything) of goats cheese and a tiny amount of chutney sprinkled over it and maybe two pieces of rocket. I ended up pulling the whole thing apart and spreading the goat cheese out myself over little bits of bread like it was make-your-own canapes. Discarded one entire piece of bread because it literally didn't have a trace of filling on it anyway, that's how dry the...
