Finally a good doner kebab in Glasgow is Morrelos, only 3-4 good doner kebabs in this MASSIVE city with 100’s of places serving Kebabs! Cequwa and Turquoise are the only other good places in my opinion in Glasgow.
The Salad is amazing, they have a separate bowl for each type of Salad!! a massive range of fresh amazing Salad for the kebab!!! even pickled red cabbage but it really needed to be marinated longer in vinegar!!! You cant have a kebab without pickled red cabbage! only a few places in Glasgow offer pickled red cabbage with their kebabs! In Wales/England not to have pickled red cabbage would be unheard of with a kebab!
Most Kebab shops in Glasgow have such a poor Kebab salad falling into either or all of the following categories:
Kebab Salads should all be in seperate bowls ie bowl of big bowl of cucumber, big bowl of Pickled and marinated in vinegar red cabbage, big bowl of pickled marinated in vinegar white cabbage, big bowl of tomatoes, bowl of Lemons, big bowl of lettuce, big bowl of onion (with some flavour added), big bowl of cucumber.
The chilli sauce needs to be changed though as it was the same as alot of other Kebab chilli sauces in Glasgow and for it to no longer be sweet but for it to be chilli based ie the way it should be made is with a small white cabbage diced (or half a medium sized one), Large white onion diced ,couple cloves of garlic, 300g mutti passata, juice of 1 lemon , 1 large red birdseye chilli, pinch of salt. Pop everything into a blender until smooth and made fresh every day… This is the recipe alot of Kebab shops in England use, its similar to the chilli sauce at Istanbul on Paisley Road West but even better!!!. Chilli Sauce makes a Kebab! Not sure if they use Tomato Ketchup and/or sugar and/or mango chutney or yogurt but none of those should ever be used when making Kebab chilli sauce, sadly alot of Kebab shops in Glasgow use all or some of those ingredients.
I hope that we can make a change and kebab shop owners in Glasgow will start to up the quaility of their kebabs!! Or maybe if there is a Kebab shop reader in Glasgow or someone who is thinking of opening up a Kebab shop in Glasogw reads this they will make their kebabs, salads and chilli sauce the way it should be made?!! or maybe someone here is friends with a local kebab shop owner who would be willing to make the quaility changes?...
Read moreI ordered a delivery of a doner kebab and chips, my original delivery time was stated as 6:30, but then it kept being pushed back, the food ended up not being delivered until 7:45pm! It was warm but not hot as it should have been. It took so long that my dinner guests who had come to eat it had to leave right as it arrived, so most of it went in the bin! I requested a refund, only to be told no, and their excuse for the ridiculously long waiting time (which I remind you was pushed back no less than 3 times from its original slot) was that the delivery driver was 'caught in heavy traffic'! Seriously?! Caught in heavy traffic coming from the start of Great Western Road to Possilpark, it's not even a 5 minute drive! It took over an hour past the original delivery time to drive such a short distance?! I'm aware it was a Saturday night, which is why I ordered the delivery much earlier than I usually would, but there is no way the traffic was so bad that it took over an hour extra! Deeply disappointing as the food from Morellos is really nice, but no takeaway is worth waiting over two hours for, especially for it to only be warmish and not hot on arrival. I feel like my request for a refund was made in good faith and deserved to be fulfilled, and now feel like I've been fobbed off with a ridiculous excuse about 'heavy traffic'. However lately the staff has changed and food and service has become quite poor, staff talk in their own language which is understandable not realising I speak the same language as them, if they are going to talk about me then they should at least make sure I don’t understand what they are saying, they could say they were speaking about someone else but I was the only 1 in the shop and the person kept pointing at me also. The old staff was really nice and friendly but the new staff is the complete opposite, it seems like when the owner is working then everyone is on their best behaviour but when he’s not around they have a free pass to do and say whatever.
Onto the worst part, my chicken donner was all mushed up and cold like it was dogs meat left over from the night before, absolutely disgusting is the way to put it, would never come back to...
