Awesome restaurant and pub in downtown St Andrews. The restaurant is absolutely stunning, both on the interior and exterior, and the food and beer are superb. Went here and ordered the Steak and Ale Cri' Pie along with a Jarl Lager, and the pie was nothing short of fantastic. The puff pastry was flaky and just right, and the steak and potatoes within the pie were on point. In general, the sauce within the pie was the high point of my experience. The ale gave just enough flavor to pack a punch without being too much, and the sauce was thick enough to be soupy but not runny. The beer was a bit disappointing (only because it was not cold enough) so I ordered a half pint of Guinness (pictured in my photos is my friend's full pint) after we realized that the Guinness here is to die for. The right amount of cream is used, and it is EXCEPTIONALLY fresh. My friends also enjoyed their meals (the Cri' burger and chicken sandwich) and beers as well. Plus, the service we received was excellent. Give this place a go.

One of the stops on our tour today is St Andrews. We dropped off in town, and did a bit of window shopping, selecting The Criterion for lunch. We choose to sit inside, and got a choice booth at the front window. Frazier was out wait staff. He was GREAT!! Told all about the Cri-Pie they are famous for. He indicated they sell over a 100 a day! We opted for a 1/2 pint of Guinness for the misses and a pint of Scottish beer for me. The had the Cri-pie and Debra had a meat chibata. We snuck on a flight of whiskey also! “The Criterion”. It was nice to try a few (4) different types. The Cri-pie was awesome!! I had the steak and ale pie. It had steak, peas, and Yukon potatoes in a brown gravy, with a puff pastry across the top! We loved it.!! I would recommend this great place all day long! Wonderful service, the food was awesome, and a lovely atmosphere!! Ps.. you can dine inside or outside. Your call ! Thanks Frazier!! You made our visit a success!!

Update - July 2024 This pub never disappoints. Popped in here on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon and managed to get a table outside. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff throughout. Their Cripes are amazing. Keep up the good work guys. ******************************** Update - May 2024 Back in St Andrews, so we just had to visit here again. Nothing has changed since our last visit, but that is good as everything about this place is superb 👌. Drink selection, food menu, atmosphere, prices and the friendliest staff ever. Tried the Chicken and Chorizo Cri-Pie and it was absolutely delicious. ******************************* 2023 - Visit Our favourite bar in St Andrews Lovely tradional friendly pub, welcoming and efficient staff throughout. Nachos are amazing, we shared a plate with a couple of glasses of wine. Great atmosphere 👌

Popped in here after a good walk around St Andrews, busy place but managed to get a table inside. Ordered the famous Cri pie, steak and ale, with potatoes and peas inside. We also ordered the chicken nachos, when they arrived I had a terrible urge to run out into the street and round up most of the students of St Andrews to help me eat them. The biggest plate of nachos I have ever encountered and sadly they defeated me, I just could not even manage half of them. Food was great... as was atmosphere with friendly attentive staff. Ten out of ten for this place.

Typical small pub with cozy atmosphere, very attentive and nice service, good local food and beer (we liked the St Andrew’s Blond Ale a lot). We had the fried Haggis-Starters (we didn’t have it often before, but this was our favorite one, the typical Haggis-taste was not too strong and the mayonnaise-dip and salad accompanied it well), as main dishes the cullen skink and the Steak&Ale Pie. The main dishes were very delicious, unfortunately both slightly too salty (but: we usually prefer less salt than others, so to most people, it’s probably ok).

Visited on a few occasions during our visit to St Andrews, Lucky enough to be able to sit outside in the sunshine. Itsa very busy popular place, great for people watching. Very friendly welcoming staff, hand sanatising before entry, track n trace in operation , all tables/chairs sanatised before being seated. We enjoyed our beers outside, great friendly atmosphere, all servers are luvly. We shared a chicken bacon cheese ciabatta, freshly prepared and very tasty. A very good menu on offer. We will be back on our next visit. :) :)
