Trattoria Genova — Restaurant in Scotland

Still waiting on a call back from the manager wanted to try and discuss our recent visit to the restaurant before leaving any reviews but feel I need to share our experience before other people endure what we did. My husband and I have enjoyed many a meal from here so after discussing with the rest of the family we decided to book it for my mums birthday (which ended up being ruined) I thought we would get great service and food but this wasn't the case on this visit! There were people arriving after us and their drinks were being served, starters or even main courses and we were still waiting on our drinks order being taken! There were plenty of staff on standing about so there was no excuse for the length of time it took! We got in the restaurant at 19:15 and left at 21:50 ridiculous time to be in a restaurant people that had arrived after us had came and gone before us! After leaving us waiting our meals came out and can't say that any of us enjoyed any of it infact I ended up with FOOD POISONING, my husband was ill after we got home and the rest of the family were ill the following morning, the kitchen staff sent out deep fried mushrooms RAW! The paté was bland, mussels not cooked long enough and a burger that was still Mooing! The bill at the end of the night was an insult after what can only be described as the worst meal we have encountered! As I said I wanted to give them a chance to discuss what had happened but a full week has went by and the manager hasn't bothered returning my call! I will not be back if you are thinking of visiting think twice especially if it's a special occasion!...

the food is very nice! I really like their pasta and chicken meals - everything is fresh, sauces taste really yummy, the delivery timing is also good! the only thing which I feel bad about is that they don't wear protective clothing in the kitchen and that's how I found hair from two different individuals in my meal - long women's hair and a beard hair(( I always order the delivery from Genova but this time I managed to go for collecting. While I was waiting for my order I saw a person making pizza and wearing nothing to protect the food - no beard or hair nets! He touched everything around him - fridge handle, oven handle, boxes and then grabbed a bunch of pineapples pieces with his bare hand to put on pizza, next thing - cheese slices from a container with pizza ingredients, second pizza, same bare hand - salami slices from another container! no individual spoons for containers with ingredients, no gloves! I am not sure if there any particular rules for kitchen staff in the UK but it looks very disturbing to me because in my country things like that would lead to a restaurant to be shut down by the government hygiene authorities... I am not complaining about the quality of food, I am sure the staff wash hands and clean surfaces according to the standard rules but in my understanding, if you have an open kitchen then the process should be...

I called around 1930hrs to enquire about a table for 2 people and to my surprise, there was one available. When we arrived, the restaurant was pretty busy and the atmosphere was very nice and warm. We were seated promptly and a drinks order was taken which gave us time to decide what we were having to eat. As I am gluten free, I was amazed to be told that the majority of the pasta/risotto dishes can be or already are gluten free which was fantastic news! Whilst ordering our food, one of us mentioned garlic bread and the waiter said that we can have gluten free garlic bread to accompany our food and I'm glad we ordered it as it was perfect in my opinion. As everything is made fresh on the premises, you may expect to wait slightly longer for your food but in all honesty, I'd have waited half an hour for my food as it was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back and we'll be recommending this place to our friends and family!!
