Deeply disappointed as a French person. The owner was arrogant and obnoxious even for a French chef. The food took over 45min to arrive. I was expecting to have French food as advertised. However to my dismay, the food was an unholy concoction of wasted French ingredients. The menu was full of grammatical errors and offensive use of random French words to ramp up the prices. The wine menu consisted of one pitiful French Sauvignon Blanc admist Italian and Spanish wine. The confit de canard was soggy (somehow) and came with 'champ' = field potatoes (shocking). For your information, French toast is not French and'French inspired mac'n'cheese croissant' is punishable by death in France and should be considered a hate crime. A £30 fillet steak came overcooked and cold to the touch. Which served as a continuation to the theme of disappointment following a starter of 'soup of the day' which was so tasteless it might as well have been instant soup from a packet slapped together with Tesco value bread. The dessert menu consisted of random French nouns that should never have been thrown together. A 'fromage plat' (or plat de fromages if you pass primary school level French) consisted of a depressing collection of almost cheddar-like 'French' cheeses served along-side oatcakes (which should never be eaten with cheese however they were a better alternative to the Tesco value bread from earlier) and chutney made out of what I could only imagine to be pickle juice and French people's tears. Do not be fool by their label as a French inspired restaurant, it is about as French or inspiring as a lasagna from an...
Read moreDo you remember where you were when you received the red warning from the met office? Not quite "you will always remember the day you almost caught Captain Jack sparrow" kind of vibe but nonetheless it is worthy of a visit with or without a met office warning. The Margarita's were decent and the olives were superb. I opted for the 'moules frites' and friend had the chicken burger. There is something about mussels being served in the kettle style which is hard to replicate but the mussels were good and the chorizo and tomato sauce was tasty. The burger was good and the accompanying sauce was delish; we both enjoyed the frittes. I forget the name of the house white but it was dry crisp and perfect with the mussels. It didn't have any of that after taste that typifies certain chardonnays and less expensive sav Blanc's. We shared the crepe.. but I'd like to try it again to be sure. Until then I'll say the sauce was intense in a good way. Overall it has a bistro esq vibe that is favoured by it's location and the outdoor heating that was being enjoyed by some hardy Glesga folk. Bearing in mind the 100mph winds were only hours away! Perhaps a little pricey but congruous with current trends. I will be back.. even just to try the crepe again. P.S. we were seated at the bar and as the waitress sprayed disinfectant to clean, we were...
Read moreA West End Wonder! My friend and I had lunch here, and it was superb. The restuarant sits in a beautiful part of Glasgow and all approaches pass lovely red and blonde sandstone tenements. There looked to be as many tables set for alfresco dining as there were tables inside. Being a blisteringly hot June day ( A Tuesday) we chose to sit outside in a canopied, shaded area. The staff were friendly, accomodating and attentive - I had arrived 20 minutes before our booking time but, nevertheless, was immediately shown to the table and served a large decanter of complementary chilled water. The menu offered up a good range of mouth watering choices. We elected for filled crepe and baked omelette respectively. My choice, the crepe, was stuffed full of wild mushrooms, cheddar cheese and bechamel sauce. It was well presented, cooked to perfection and incredibly tasty. My friend was similarly impressed with his, similarly stuffed offering. The coffees were great too. Price wise - worth every penny. Fine dining without the huge price tag. We'll done folks. I'll be back, first chance I get! PS: There are nearby pockets of...
