Be kind to yourself and dine elsewhere. Everything about the place told me the meal would be defrosted, microwaved, tasteless muck - and I was right. The coke was flat, the Katsu Curry looked like it had been prepared by a child who used a Fisher Price kitchen - and it tasted like it too apart from the sauce which tasted worse and looked similar to the worming medicine our cat has. The burger and chips was impressive in that it didn't taste like burger and chips but more like undercooked batter, and I've not been able to get rid of the taste since. The overall experience came close to ruining the day, so in an attempt to salvage the afternoon we went to another pub that had a lovely atmosphere and charming staff, and we had a heavenly sticky toffee pudding and two delightful coffees. By the time we left the second pub, our tinnitus had just about subsided from the incessant dubstep that had been blasting out at the Grapes, and our faith in humanity was restored. Then the sun broke free from the clouds and shone once again.
Now we just await the inevitable bout of antibiotic resistant e-coli to take effect.

Read moreWaited a very long time to be served, bar staff weren't keeping an eye on who was next which is very frustrating. Eventually tried to order a roast beef dinner, no beef left. Then the barman says, but we have the beef duo, which is roast beef and beef ribs. Errr. But if you have the duo featuring roast beef, then you must have a roast beef dinner right ? No, apparently not. Bizarrely he kept explaining to me what the Duo was, until i wondered if i was featuring in a hidden camera wind-up. Eventually the manager came over, and explained to the barman that if they have no roast beef dinner left, then they also have no Duo meals either. I said, right, I'll have the lamb shank then. Oh sorry , we have none of them either. It's been a while since i went to the Grapes, and based on this, it will be a while til i...
Read moreFirst visit, went to the beach with friends and our dogs as a day trip over half term and came in during the afternoon as the weather turned. Bar staff were friendly and chatty, gave us some recommendations on their menu which has recently been revamped. So nice to have more dog friendly places to visit too! Our dogs got plenty of attention from the staff and had dog bowls with water without us asking.
Food was nice, a bit of a surprise as didn’t expect much for pub grub. Friends got a mix of things for the ‘build your own sharers’ and were pleasantly surprised too. I got the prawns to start and the Thai curry as a main. It all came out quickly after ordering, was well presented and was still hot.
Not local to Formby so not likely to be back often but would visit again if in the area...
