Wheelchair Model Diaries
The Windmill (Seabank Road Southport)
Myself and my partner went on a cheeky day date to The Windmill pub in Southport located on Seabank Road.
The parking is on road and is pay and display, but the payment machine is right at the front of the pub, which is handy! I had my blue badge so we were able to park free of charge.
The first thing I noticed was the lovely beer garden at the front of the property, which was very spacious. There was also a big sign welcoming Dogs, and noting they are child friendly too.
I was in my wheelchair which is particularly wide, and although there was a ramp entrance, I was unable to fit through the single door due to the width of the chair. A slimmer chair would have fit no issues.
I transferred to a pub seat as the table was too low for my chair, which was no problem for me but someone else may need to ask for a different table.
The Windmill had a traditional nostalgic English pub feel, and I just loved the pictures of Southport from yesteryear proudly displayed on the walls!
The menu was as you would expect in line with traditional pub food, as well as some additional more contemporary dishes, which we couldnāt wait to try!
The pub was busy, even on a Thursday afternoon! and there was limited staff so no table service was possible. My partner ordered for us both at the bar.
We went for three courses;
Goats cheese bruschetta with caramalised onion and balsamic dressing (v) Halloumi and walnut salad (gf)
Garlic bread with cheese
Carbonara with parmasan Fish and chips with bread and butter (and tartar sauce)
Biscoff Cheesecake with ice cream
I was so impressed with the proper table condiments! not a sachet in sight thankfully. The portions were very large, and excellent value for money!
There was plenty of space inside to move freely in my chair, and the disabled toilets were easy to access. They used Radar key entry, a key was easily available from the bar, although there was a notice stating the facilities were soon due for refurbishing, they were in great condition and very clean.
We happened to also notice, there was a ramp to fire escape, which was great planning
This was our first visit to The Windmill, and we will certainly be returning!

Ā Ā Ā Read moreCome away for a couple of nights and found this place. Dog friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I had the mushroom stroganoff and my husband had the sausage and mash. Both lovely and filling. Whilst here there was a customer who wasnāt happy with his food and was very rude to the staff, clearly intoxicated. I have to say that Emma (the Scottish lady) dealt with this man in a strong, pleasant but courteous manner. The complaint was that the portion size wasnāt big enough! When the gravy jug was moved off the plate! Well my husband is a big man and he had the same and it was plenty big enough! The man was refunded and asked to leave. His partner was clearly embarrassed. Well done Emma you did brilliantly. I would recommend this place hands down and if in the area...
Read moreBeen a few years since I'd been in the Windmill so I was pleasantly surprised. Nice decour and friendly staff were first things I picked up on. Dizzy Blonde from Robinsons was the pale ale cask offering. This beer does not always travel well but have to say it was the best pint of Dizzy Blonde I've had in a long time. Reasonable bar prices too and 3 pints was well under £12. There were 15 of us who all met up over 2 hours, and we were all gappy to have multiple drinks. The pub got busier as people came in for food and had reserved tables. Friday special Fish and Chips x 2 for £12. A band was setting up for later in the evening. It's great to see the old pub still has a beating heart and going strong. Will definitely be back at...
