Let me preface this review by saying Tik Taco is the best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to, in the UK, outside of London. And head and shoulders above the one or two others in Southport. Every detail of the place looks as though a lot of thought went into it — from the decor to the menu.
Started off with a margarita which unfortunately was overly-sweet and only faintly tasted of tequila. I think the recipe was just a little off and a few big dashes of fresh lime juice would brighten it up. I tend to like bold tasting Margaritas but that may just be the Californian in me.
The guacamole was good although a little smooth and one-note for my taste. It could be improved immensely if they used a recipe like the classic Rosa Mexicana one which is easy and its base can be made ahead of time and added to the avocados for each order. It’s absolutely delicious.
The pork belly and charred pineapple was fantastic and the boldest flavor of any of the dishes. Also delicious was the brisket taquitos (although I’d used corn tortillas and I don’t think the consommé works very well).
The Mexican fried chicken was beautifully made and things like the shredded cabbage and thinly-sliced radish were simple but spot-on touches.
All in all, an exceptional restaurant and the only place anyone in Merseyside should go for thoughtful, delicious Mexican food.
Also, there was only one waiter on tonight and it was extremely impressive how calm and collected he remained without any help on the floor.
As a side note, the music (a mix of late 60s to early 70s) was nice but didn’t create much of an atmosphere. I might lower the lights a little and change-up...
Read moreI Wouldn’t waste your money eating in the restaurant! These do some great offers for takeaways and the food is ok (not authentic though) yet the three times we've been in person it’s been very expensive for A) the nasty tequila and too much sugar syrup in the margaritas (I actually told the server it was far too sweet and after 2 sips asked if I could swap it out to one without syrup, which he agreed but then charged me for both anyways stating “once drinks have been tasted they can’t be returned?” & B) the absolute zero atmosphere in there!! It’s the third time we've been where we are the only table or one of two tables in there. I would imagine this place would be thriving if they put the offers on in the restaurant also! But for a near £100 I expect it to be a bit more of an evening out than a kill joy experience. The only difference I felt from eating at home was not doing the dishes. I Feel quite gutted with us wanting a nice evening out to dinner but spending that kinda money mid week to sit in a...
Read moreOur first visit to Tic Taco and I have to say it wasn’t what I expected. I’ve had my expectations set high because of all the wonderful reviews. The food was lovely but the fact that there was just one person on the restaurant floor taking orders, making drinks and serving food has let the experience down for us. It took nearly 30 minutes to take the food order and also quite some time to get another round of drinks. We all had starters and mains and the food was freshly cooked and very tasty however I would have liked to be asked if I wanted my tacos soft or crispy instead of it just being assumed. The chef has made some kid’s fish tacos for my son which was lovely as according to the server they normally just do pork ones for kids. The portion size was also a little underwhelming, we were all still hungry after leaving the restaurant. Overall it would have been entirely different experience if only there was enough attention given to...
