AJ's Takeaway — Restaurant in Shanklin

This is my second time at this chip shop. My first experience was positive. Portions were reasonable and the price to match. My second time at this chip shop was not a great experience. On arrival I noticed that the staff were happy and helpful and had a nice attitude towards their customers. I ordered 4oz cheeseburger and a large cheesy chips. My wife ordered a regular chips, savaloy and a curry sauce. We ordered these items to go. Once at home we noticed that my wife's order did not contain the savaloy we ordered. We then went back and explained the situation. I was then told by one of the staff that i didn't order the savaloy. But the total amount I paid suggested otherwise.The person who I presume owned the establishment did not argue and was quite happy to give me the savaloy. "Accidents happen no problem" . We then got back home and began to eat. The large cheesy chips did not appear to be a large at all. (My wife's medium plan portion was a lot bigger) this was disappointing. I was then eating the burger and chipped my tooth on a piece of bone that was inside the burger. I may have just been unlucky but AJs may want to take a look at their suppliers. Unfortunately I will not be visiting again. I hope AJs raise their standards in the hope they will retain more of...

I’ve gone for a 4 star rating to be fair .. but I think really on my visit I would go 3 .. maybe 2 ☹️ .. but I’ve gone 4 because i think they meant well.

So I attended on a fairly hot day, you can’t pre order online and the phone never gets answered from what I saw whilst I was there .

So walked in and there was about 5/6 people waiting before me .. put an order in for 4 people , basically 3 cod , nuggets , 2 chips mushy peas and onion rings .. so not a massive amount. We then waited no joke 40 mins for our food. 3 or 4 people came in after us and got served ?.. there was no real order to how the food given out. I would think you’d do one at a time in the order they got served. But anyway to top it off .. we got home and mushy peas had been forgotten 🤦🏼‍♂️ our 1 and half year old was fuming :( .

I did feel sorry for them , there was only 3 members of staff working and clearly overrun. Someone did complain as well when we were there asking for a refund as the food had been sat out for 20 mins . So I think this didn’t help.

I went to AJ's this evening after it was closed for a few weeks but was optimistic because of previous purchases I've had which were really tasty and hot but unfortunately on this occasion it was very different possibly a different cook? .still no excuse......I purchased 2 large cod large chips 2 large mushy peas and pickled onions coming to to around £27 (price isn't the issue) which was fine before as the food was tasty and hot....this was neither tasty or hot......the fish wasn't wrapped very well and the chips well let's just say they weren't fresh out of the fryer. I phoned up with my order at 17:00 as that's when it opens so thought well there'd be a good chance of the food being fresh and hot and I collected it at 17:30 but sadly not......I'm so disappointed as there really aren't many decent fish and chip shops around and AJ's is very local to me.
