I used to visit The Grind CafĂ© at Kelham Island regularly three years ago, especially for their Pancake of the Week, which I enjoyed twice a month without fail. However, I stopped going after they changed chefs—unfortunately, the pancakes were no longer as delicious, and I left feeling disappointed.

This year, I was thinking that the same chef might have moved to a café in Crookes, so I decided to check it out. When I arrived, I was told the chef had left and they no longer served Pancake of the Week. I mentioned how disappointed I was, and to my surprise, the waitress kindly asked the new chef if they could make one specially for me.

To my delight, the pancake was absolutely delicious—The Grind CafĂ© has truly returned to its best. Not only was the pancake top quality again, but the rest of the food was also excellent. I sincerely hope the management continues to support great chefs like the current one and considers hiring more staff. It’s a lovely cafĂ©, and with the right team, it can keep delighting more customers...

Me and my friend had a lovely brunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We were trying to choose between a few local places and we are both delighted that we chose The Grind Cafe. The food was absolutely delicious, and was cooked very quickly! We were a bit awkward, asking for changes to the menu and they were very accommodating and the full English was fantastic - both my friend's vegan one and my meaty one! The cakes are also as good as they look - we ended up having 3! The biggest highlight however was the staff and service. We were served by Mags and Dulcy (I am very sorry for my spelling) and they were both utterly delightful. Friendly, helpful, accommodating, fun, welcoming, I run out of adjectives and still feel like I've undersold the lovely staff who served us. As mentioned earlier we were a bit awkward and crazy at times and they took it all in stride. I genuinely had a fantastic brunch experience and would love to visit again - I almost certainly will be back soon. Could not recommend...

Went in for breakfast. Staff were friendly but kept getting our order wrong. Didn't write our order down and then kept coming back to check what we wanted as they remembered incorrectly and after being corrected they still served us the wrong items. Ordered 2 meat breakfast burritos and got served the vegetarian ones. Also got served the wrong coffee as I asked for decaf and was given caffeine despite repeating multiple times I wanted decaf as I can't have caffeine. They apologised and remade the drink but to pretty much get the whole order wrong even after checking a few times seems pretty ridiculous. Tried to give the food a go but didn't enjoy that either. I felt bad and we took the food to go as it was over ÂŁ30 and didnt want to watse it but honestly it was not worth it. The place looks nice but the overall quality of service doesn't match up...

I didn’t like this place 😕. The pistachio cake was old and didn’t taste good đŸ°đŸš«. They accidentally overcharged us 💰 and we forgot to ask for a refund when leaving. It was a bad experience 😔 and really ruined my idea of a cafĂ© where I could relax and enjoy being there ☕💭. Honestly, it wasn’t worth going back just to get my money back đŸ™…â€â™€ïž. Maybe their other cakes are good 🍰🙂, but you know — once you have a bad experience with a place, you just don’t feel like giving it another try 😕💔. That bad feeling stays and takes away the excitement of going back 😞☕.

Visited the grind cafe for a late breakfast and had such a lovely experience! The staff are so welcoming, service was quick and the food can’t be faulted. We had a lovely chat with the couple who own it and they even gave us a piece of their blueberry cake on the house. Definitely recommend coming here and will be visiting again!
