Where do I start!
I've always loved five guys and had mostly very good experiences previously.
Came to this location for the first time as I was staying in a hotel nearby. After helping at a sporting event all day we just wanted some good simple food but it went so wrong.
We ordered a cheeseburger with fried onions, tomato and lettuce, and also the grilled cheese sandwich.
It wasn't that busy in the store so waited near the tills enjoying them making the food.
A few minutes after ordering I saw a grilled cheese on the side. Figured it wasn't ours as it was too quick (I know it can take time to cook the burgers)
I noticed the grilled cheese wasn't wrapped and soon after a bun appeared next to it, although it had gherkins on it (so I knew it wasn't mine as they are disgusting!)
Fifteen mins later, after watching the unwrapped grilled cheese and gherkin infested bun making their way along the line they added burgers to the bun, wrapped it and then put them in a bag and called my number.
Took the food back to the table and my wife opened the grilled cheese and said 'why is it cold'. I explained that I'd watched it sitting on the line for the last fifteen mins not even wrapped for most of it. I took it up to the till and explained to the girl that it wasn't hot and I explained why. She tried to tell me that's just how it comes (not hot). As I was explaining that obviously a grilled cheese sandwich should be hot, someone else came over to ask what the issue was. I explained and he immediately said that's not right she they'd make another one.
I went and sat back down and opened my burger and what a surprise it was covered in gherkins! I took them off and ate the burger, but really why put things on a customers burger they didn't even order!
A few mins later someone came over with a new fresh very hot grilled cheese sandwich which was much nicer.
After we ate our food I ordered milkshakes to take away (which were really really good)
Overall a very annoying stressful meal. The management here need to sort out their chefs (to not serve cold food or add extra unwanted items) and also their till staff who think that grilled cheese sandwiches should be served cold.
Won't be visiting this location...
Read moreI want to start this review off by saying the staff were phenominal and the food/resturant decor review has nothing to do with them (since they have to abide by corporate recipes). I went with my roomie and had never been before, so I didn't know I was ordering a smaller burger. I won't say what he did incase he gets in trouble for it but the burger was far more filling :) 10/10, give them a raise you corporate smucks. I would go back only for the staff alone... And maybe the milkshakes
The fries are god tier, but the burgers... I'll be honest, if five guys are charging 7+ pounds, I expect it to taste better than what mcdonalds makes, it tastes near identical with maybe some traces of smoke from the cooking process. It was a good burger sure (I ordered the little bacon burger), but... It was just missing something. It may be just me because I don't really like tomato/lettuce/pickles on my burgers, I have severe texture issues and I know we're british and allergic to anything seasoned but man. Step up the recipe game! I got the vibe it was meant to be minimalistic but , those burgers were maybe seasoned with salt and possibly pepper. Brush some paprika on that bacon with some maple, add in some spices to the burger paddies. You'd have the same experience ordering from the mcdonalds value menu.
The milkshake tho... GET YOURSELF A BISCOFF MILKSHAKE IMMEDIATELY. With cream! Very important. It was SO good, it was thick, delicious and I would buy them every time if they were closer.
The resturant itself. Pristine, the staff maintained it well. It was quiet when I went but I have NEVER seen a place boast so much about how many articles they've been in. I feel like the higher ups were trying to aim for 90s diner minimalism with a modern twist. It just comes off as egotistical with all the articles plastered across the walls and how 'america does it better'. Leave it to america to be the only resturant in the UK to do that, and somehow STILL have subpar burgers, the literal staple of their brand.
3/5 food, 5/5 service from the workers. I went on the 28th of january in the afternoon, so whoever was working...
Read moreLove the food, a little bit on the expensive side but well worth the money. The burgers themselves are so delicious and they are very filling, if you can't eat much, this burger will fill you so for £8 odd, is is worth it. A portion of regular chips will feed 2 people, maybe even a small portion because there portions are actually massive, so the chips are worth the money.
The milkshakes are the best I've ever had, especially the peanut butter milkshake! Absolutely lush! The standard drinks from the machine are refillable, and they have such an amazing variety of drinks! My favourite is cherry Dr.Pepper where as my brothers is blueberry Powerade (you can switch any drink from the machine as well E.G if you had Dr.Pepper first you can go back for Lemonade or something.
WARNING The Chips are made in peanut oil so if you have a nut allergy, i would definitely not recommend eating them (haha) and they also leave the potato skin on the chips, if you don't like that i also do not recommend buying them. Five Guys also tells you where in the country the chips are from
In conclusion, Five Guys is an amazing place, in my opinion they do the best burgers in the country. They may be a bit on the expensive side but it makes for a nice treat...
