Lokanta — Restaurant in Sheffield

We came on Valentines day. We chose the restaurant since the website didn't mention anything about valentines day and thought we'd have the full menu to choose from (partner is vegetarian, so a some more options were there). Maybe our mistake by not phoning in to confirm this. We arrived to find a set menu and decided to stay since we heard the food was decent. However at nearly £50pp for the food we got, I didn't think it was at all worth it sadly. You might see in other reviews that the portion sizes are very questionable, tending towards the smaller side. The staff gave us a slight discount as we didn't want dessert which was appreciated, although her the lady that served us , her aura was slightly skewed to the negative side. For us wanting to deviate slightly from the "set" menu - no dessert.

If it was a normal day with the normal pricing they advertise on their website ... this would have been a better review. But for nearly £100 for 2 people, I have to be honest, I would look elsewhere. Ordered take away Saturday night (£138) via deliveroo! Was unsure whether it would be delivered or collection. Called restaurant to clarify and they confirmed it would be delivered. 1.5 hrs later no food so called restaurant who then said it was for collection, by this point we had a few drinks so couldn’t collect, no delivery was offered, tried to cancel but couldn’t, the manger said my mother who called the restaurant lied about getting clarification re: delivery. I then said I would collect the food via taxi as it was a lot of money, the manager then said I would have to pay again. Absolutely disgusted by the treatment of this business, my mum was a regular at the restaurant but shall not be going any more. This was a special occasion, I was visiting from Scotland and my mum did nothing but praise the food here, hence the big order. Absolutely devastated by the loss of money and the fact that a manager could have so little morals. I will be taking this to the bank as fraud, money taken out of my account and no goods. Please don’t go to this restaurant, they don’t deserve good...

UPDATE: The portion sizes here used to be out of this world and you would eat yourself happily into oblivion. But perhaps 2 or 3 years ago they scaled back the portion sizes, probably for financial reasons which is understandable, but it totally ruined the restaurant. The meals now just lack the organic magic they had and feel a bit too controlled. It's still really excellent food but the real magic that it had has gone sadly.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is the 3rd time I've been to Lokanta.. Tonight my girlfriend and I chatted extensively before the food arrived, the atmosphere is very good here so it's easy to relax and get into a good dialogue.. Once the food arrived the conversation stopped.. This was the first time I have ever shaken my head in disbelief whilst eating at a restaurant.. Silent disbelief that I was eating something that literally rendered me and my tastebuds dumbfounded with pleasure.. If I were to use the word exquisite I would be doing the food a disservice.. If you haven't eaten here yet then you will die with regret.. I have nothing...
