Visited on a Saturday morning with my wife and son, and another family of 4, on our way to the Oasis gig in Manchester. I let my 6'2, 14yr old son have a sip of my pineapple cider, as i said it tastes like a soft drink. 5 minutes later, the security guard approached us and asked my son for ID, for which I replied he's 14, and not drinking. He then abruptly responded saying he'd seen him take a drink of my drink, which I acknowledged. He then aggressively said he was going to throw us out, threatening physical violence, repeatedly saying 'I can do that'. He then walked off, returned 5 minutes later, and told us to leave. If I was in the wrong, then fair enough, inform me in a respectable manner, and we move on. From the outset, he was rude, aggressive, confrontational, and disrespectful. God knows what would have happened if he had said the same thing to someone who is not as calm as me. The pub was quite busy at 11am, with 90% of people being families on their way to Manchester for the gig. No loud groups, no trouble, everyone being excited. There was no need for the aggression from this one security guard called Nimar (named obtained from the manager so we could submit a formal complaint). Completely ruined the start of what should have been a fabulous family day out. So, all in all, the pub is nice, with a great selection of drinks. The security staff on the other hand, need training in customer relations. Bully boy tactics may be necessary at 11pm, when you're surrounded by rowdy drunken people, but 11am surrounded by families is not the right...

An on platform station brewpub with a great selection of beers and a very sympathetically restored bar with Grecian architecture which creates a special atmosphere.

Coming through Sheffield quite a lot recently, it’s always a pleasure to stop off at this lovely Good Beer Guide listed venue for an hour or two whilst waiting for connecting trains. There are quite a few compartments/joining rooms to the back and side of the bar, so it’s easy to find a quiet spot to wait time, although on Saturdays it does tend to get busy.

The beers - usually around 10 casks at peak times, and the same amount in keg form, plus ciders, and an extensive bottles and can range - are served in great condition and cover a wide range of styles from pale ales to stouts to sours and other more interesting concoctions.

Thornbridge is typically represented in the line up, as are the operators, Tapped Brew Co., but guest breweries are plentiful and the line up rotates often. Staff are friendly and warn you if the price of a pint is significantly more than you would normally expect to pay (which is possible with some of the more limited edition or hop forward beers). Generally, I found the cask ales to be £4.50-£5.50/pint, but the keg could be up to £8 for a 5% abv.

Absolutely recommended to stop off for a refreshing beverage if you are in Sheffield or changing...

Firstly, the Sheffield Tap is in a super-convenient location. It's literally at the Sheffield Train Station so it's great for if you're changing trains at Sheffield or as a first pub stop if you're visiting. The decor and atmosphere are quite unique (kinda dark and traditional) and there's an outside area at the front for when the weather is nice too. There's a great choice of craft ales, lagers and ciders. I can't comment on drinks beyond those because that's all I tend to drink there. My friends and I have had some fantastic times at the Sheffield Tap and I've also had some relaxing times there while I've been waiting for trains. I can definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area. Some small warnings though. Firstly, it's quite pricey so you may choose to not spend too long there (depending on how flush you're feeling)! Also, it can get very busy at times so it can get crowded at the bar.

Still nice premises but definitely fallen behind in the last few years. Downgraded from some of the good beer they previously offered & failed to keep up with other spots who now offer far better selections. It feels a bit tired generally. No beautiful varieties of Bernard from the Czech Rep anymore, think it's something like Veltins now which is fairly uninspiring. The craft beer choices are really flat too, nothing you've heard of & a leap into the unknown is rarely rewarded. Okay selection if you drink cask. Too much Thornbridge (Not great beer & even worse people running it!) Will only stay for one now when it used to be two or three. No discount on can prices for takeaway for the train either, bought some cheap Neck Oil from M&S in the station instead.
