Mothers Day at Silversmiths Following my experience, I am now waiting to see Silversmiths do a second appearance on Kitchen Nightmares as every table was dissatisfied with many storming out saying they would not be returning. This place is a combination of extortionate pricing, appalling portions and terrible management. The positives: · The waitress was lovely, polite, attentive and apologetic · The plum chutney on the starter had an excellent flavour · The gravy on the main was very good · The dining area was comfortable, with appropriate lighting and music at a level that was pleasant and did not interrupt conversation The negatives: · We left hungry despite having a 3 course meal due to abysmally small portions · The starter portion was small, half a slice of thin toasted bread and the thinnest possible slither of terrine they had been able to cut · The main the beef was all cooked to a single level of ‘doneness’, perfectly rare for myself but far too rare for other guests who had requested well done or medium · The main the roast potatoes were hard in the centre, clearly not a roasting variety and the cheapest they had been able to lay their hands on · The leeks on the main were virtually unidentifiable, cut fine and cooked to death in a white / grey coloured sauce with guests asking ‘what’s that?’ · The parsnip on the main was just a quarter of a parsnip, poorly coloured but tasty · The dessert (by far the worst of the courses for appallingly small portion) could fit on a single spoon, the baklava consisted of two pieces of approximately 3cm in length, a little bit of some sort of puree and 2 cubes of Turkish delight, the sticky toffee pudding consisted of a single cube of pudding of little more than an inch, a small ball of oddly flavoured icecream, a few chocolate shards, a bit of sauce and some stray pistachios, clearly not intended for the dish but accidentally added as they’d done the baklava’s for the same table. · The manager was running round like a headless chicken dealing with complaints about the food which was quite distracting and probably should have told them something was seriously wrong with the menu. There were numerous complaints I observed covering people being unable to taste the flavours they were expecting, to portions (lots of these, even from children, there was a young boy who loudly exclaimed 'but mummy where's the rest of my pudding? I like big puddings'), the pricing of the poor portions, the level of cooking (with many being unhappy about the rare beef / pork served) and the quality of facilities (covered later). · I personally complained to the manager as I went to the toilet when we arrived only to be tipped to the floor as it was not secured to the wall / floor. I then returned just before leaving to find that the faulty toilet was still open with no out of order notice, I raised to the waitress who summoned the manager. The manager was rude, questioning why I would return to the toilet knowing it was faulty, I pointed out I had done him a favour reporting it so that it could be closed as someone less able could potentially be injured. He just muttered he hadn’t had time; personally I would think customer safety should be a priority. · Although it didn’t bother our party, they had advertised a free glass of prosecco for mum on arrival (given we were having mothers day menu) but this wasn’t even offered. · The waitress although attentive couldn’t answer basic questions about the menu and didn’t know for example that certain drinks only came in a one size (not pints / half’s)

This relaxed yet stylish restaurant, Silversmiths, based in the centre of Sheffield, provides modern British cuisine, with a touch of Yorkshire influence. This award-winning restaurant advertises their midweek menu as “affordable sophistication.” They value these refined dishes by featuring locally sourced and fresh produce, cooked to perfection. We went to check out the latest Midweek menu offering for Silversmith’s Midweek Supper Club; Available Tues – Thur, Starters £5 / Mains £15 / Sides £5 / Desserts £5. [Ad] Please note that we visited in February, and the menu is set to change regularly, so please visit their website to find their latest Midweek Menu here. We enjoyed; ⭐️ Beef Jerky starter – we decided to share this as we wanted to limit ourselves to 2 courses but I had my heart set on trying a dessert too. We felt the portion was small, however all elements were really tasty. ⭐️ Steak [+£10 surcharge] – the steak was cooked to perfection. The potato fondant looked burnt, however was actually great. ⭐️ Cod Loin – This was so delicious, I could have easily have eaten it again. ⭐️ Cherry Bakewell Dessert (shared) – The cherry flavouring in this dessert was spot on. Really glad I opted to try a dessert. Every dish was plated very aesthetically and with great care. Every ingredient tasted delicious and complimented and elevated other elements on the plate really well. A nicely set out, smart restaurant. I could have eaten the Cod again it was so tasty. The only slight criticism, in our opinion, is that you definitely need 2 courses each here, we didn’t leave overly full. We could have easily ate 3 courses, however currently we are trying to slim down a little. Also, I feel that maybe the sides could be priced a little less than a starter? But we didn’t add any, so I can’t comment on the side portion size. You will save around £20pp on their A La Carte Menu, when you opt for their Midweek Menu, however some of the dishes on the A La Carte look fantastic, and there are a few complimentary nibbles with the A La Carte too! This restaurant also does Bottomless Brunch and a Sunday Dinner, which I have heard great things about, but yet to try myself. 💷 Spend: £30-£40pp (approx. £45 – £65pp for their A La Carte Menu) ⏰ Open Hours: Tues-Fri 5pm-11pm, Sat 12pm-3pm/5:30pm-11pm & Sun 12pm-5pm 🚗 Parking info: Nearby street parking only

A Real Gem in the Heart of Sheffield – Silversmiths Delivers! I recently had the pleasure of dining at Silversmiths and was thoroughly impressed by their current à la carte menu. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food – something that really elevates the whole experience. The menu itself is a brilliant showcase of modern British cuisine with a strong emphasis on local, seasonal produce. Every dish we tried was beautifully presented and thoughtfully balanced. The starters were a triumph – the whipped goats’ cheese with beetroot and walnut was a standout, offering a perfect harmony of earthy sweetness and creamy tang. For the main course, I opted for the Yorkshire lamb rump – cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavour, accompanied by a deliciously rich jus and some of the best seasonal veg I’ve had in a long time. My partner chose the beef fillet, and it was nothing short of exceptional. Perfectly seared and melt-in-the-mouth tender, it was served with a silky pomme purée, roasted shallot, and a bold red wine reduction that tied everything together with finesse. It’s the kind of dish that stops conversation at the table for a few moments – just stunning. We couldn’t resist dessert, and we were so glad we didn’t – the dark chocolate torte was indulgent without being heavy, and the rhubarb & custard dish was a nostalgic nod to tradition, but elevated in every way. The atmosphere at Silversmiths is relaxed yet refined, and you really get the sense that every element – from the food and wine list to the lighting and music – has been carefully curated to create a memorable dining experience. In a city with no shortage of good restaurants, Silversmiths stands out as something special. If you’re looking for locally inspired fine dining that doesn’t feel stuffy, this place is a must. Highly recommended.
