Came here at 10pm last week and was having a lovely catch up with friends I hadnât seen in a while. When they rang the first bell for last orders, my partner got a round in as we wanted another drink but didnât want to leave it too late and keep the bar staff. They rang the bell again (as we are well used to in most establishments) so began drinking a bit quicker, but then they rang the bell a third time which I found a bit odd. I asked one of the bar staff if we still had time to finish our drinks and they assured me it was no problem and we could finished the drinks weâd just paid for. A different member of staff then shouted to the pub that if we wanted another drink we had to order it now before the till shut and counted down from 5. Again, we thought we had enough time to finish our drink as this was still before 11pm. Not 1 minute after this said member of staff began to shout at everyone in the pub to leave, and when we said weâd only just bought drinks he said he didnât care and we had to drink up and get out (while the three of them were already drinking a pint behind the bar). Another table of younger people around 18 felt that they had to quickly down their pints and subsequently threw up outside as a result of us being rushed out. Having worked in pubs for 3 years I find this very off putting, why assure us we can finish our drinks and then kick us out two minutes later with no explanation other than âfinish your drinks and get outâ. I am very disappointed as until that point we were considering frequenting this pub more often, but after this I will definitely not be returning. I understand having a closing time, but I do not understand offering customers to buy another drink and then kicking them out a...
Read moreUpdated: Disappointed to find this is no longer a Thornbridge pub. Previously spent several afternoons in here while my wife was on a nearby training course.... It had been redecorated and the loos were now wokified since my last visit. I greatly admire anyone taking on a pub in the current economic climate ..and of course a landlord has to stock beers he can sell..and provide what his regular clients wants. This had been one of 4 or 5 character pubs that stocked some interesting beers and made me look forward to visiting Sheffield. From the chats I had in there with people who had also travelled some distance to visit special pubs I was not alone in this.
For me it had lost something a bit special. It is still a jolly good pub. It would be fine as a local if I liked the lighter more commercial craft ales. But it is, for me, no longer a must visit pub. I hope the changes keep it alive and well used by locals...
Read moreMy pint was lovely but my husband had a pint of Jaipur which was off. He complained and was told that it was because it was cask and that a regular drinks it every day and has never had a problem. Later, the staff member asked the regular, who said it was fine and he shrugged at my husband as if to say "I told you so". We drink enough beer to know it was off, there was eventually a half hearted offer to change the pint "if you want" but following that level of service we were not keen to stay. Shame it is not a proper Thornbridge pub any more, we will not...
