Pleasant staff. But I’m sorry to say that the drinks truly lets this place down. Here’s why:
The cocktails were bad. Really bad. The weirdest cocktails I’ve ever had. They’re pre-mixed, bizarre flavours that are far too strong (a daiquiri with miso?!?), and presentation is just a plain glass.
They don’t serve coffee. Strange choice.
All other drink were basic and, by Sheffield standards, lacking variety.
The place lacked character considering they have a ghoul as a mascot. It’s just a concrete shell of a building.
I didn’t try the food, but the choices, much like the cocktails were weird and/or uninspiring.
Taking everything into account, everything was extremely overpriced. Cocktails were £10 each which is on the high end for this city. Lemonade that we used to cut the taste of the cocktails were £3 each - not pints, they were small bottles.
I think a ghoul has cursed this place with bad drinks, ridiculous pricing, and bizarre choices.
I wouldn’t rush to return to Pearl...
Read moreIt was a really great time watching the football at pearl. Despite altering the party size last minute, the team were so accommodating - this was much appreciated, considering how busy they were.
When we visited, they had a deal for a £10 for a beer and a flatbread. We both had lamb and it was amazing! Very flavoursome - couldn't fault it! We also had the courgette skewers on my partner's recommendation and they were gorgeous.
The decor and atomsphere is lovely, and I imagine on a sunny afternoon sitting outside and admiring the view can't be beaten. I am very jealous of those who have this as their local and we will definitely be back!
The only comment I would make is they need to improve their selection of soft drinks. With such a varied food and cocktail menu, I expected more interesting choices - not just Coke and lemonade. I understand you do mocktails but these may not be to everyone's price point, so a better variety would be appreciated for...
Read moreReally disappointing experience here on Saturday, which is a shame because I love Bench and like Public, and I hoped that Pearl would be as good.
The cocktails are served in tiny glasses (negroni in a martini glass? Or a short glass which is mostly a huge block of ice with a sip’s worth of cocktail around it). The flavours sound interesting but the actual experience of drinking them is not worth the price. I ordered a martini with coconut and fig leaf, which tasted nothing like a martini, but also not like coconut either - and the fig leaf was actually nasturtium. Had to pass the drink round eight people to get through it, and none of us enjoyed it.
Beyond that, you can’t smoke outside after 9pm unless you basically walk out onto the road and we were also told not to talk while smoking, to smoke quickly and then head immediately inside. At closing time we were told to drink up fast and leave asap - which was difficult given the unpleasantness...
