Located by the river Severn in Shrewsbury, this quaint restaurant is an absolute must for all those whom visit the area and wish to taste the delights of what true American cuisine tastes like. Having the food tasting so good and the service being so warm and welcoming, I had to return back, just 2 weeks later! Having been to the USA many times and travelled across the States, I can assure you that the food and service provided at Hickory's Smokehouse is the closest experience to that of experiencing the real thing! Upon being seated, you will be offered for any drinks and provided with complimentary popcorn, fresh from their very own popcorn machine. The bar is very stylish serving all of the popular drinks, as well as their very own brewed beer. With a diverse menu to cater for all appetites, you're guaranteed to find something you'll love and crave for here. I would personally recommend visiting with a friend and trying out the BBQ sharing platter for 2. If there is something you may not like as part of your meal, feel free to ask if you want to "chop and change" something, for a more personal and tailored experience. Alternatively, they have special daily deals through most of the week, with the BBQ bucket on Thursdays (strongly recommended). The desserts are scrumptious too, with their very own frozen custard, much similar to ice cream. The service is always friendly and welcoming, making you feel at ease and at home. The interior decor is perfect to represent that of a mid Western saloon styled bar; with effort down to intricate details like the old fashioned taps in the toilets, to the piano with overgrown foliage above the bar. You can even book for the table located around the fire pit! All ages are welcome and they provide a children's menu with ample options available. Be advised, a tip is already automatically added to your bill, but the staff are happy to remove this, should you deem the service unsatisfactory. Personally, I've only encountered exemplary service and food and have always left the tip on the bill, as they have well and truly earned it. Easily the best restaurant in Shrewsbury, I would recommend this place to anyone!

Hickories is a pleasant American steakhouse inspired restaurant with a warm, welcoming ambience. Decked with stylish, cosy decor and an open kitchen. There is plenty of space here with both outdoor and indoor seating in addition to seating upstairs but being a popular place I would recommend booking a table to secure your spot. Hickories also boasts a cinema inside the restaurant with regular showings. I would recommend for your enjoyment: the 3am mac and cheese, the chicken and fries or the 8hr beef rib. And I would recommend for the aversion of your disappointment, that you steer clear of the BBQ pulled pork or breakfast muffins. The BBQ being oddly sour with the pork tasting and feeling like wet cat food, and the eggs being cooked medium rare for those who enjoy salmonella. Overall, the food here is good. But the staff are even better and pay keen attention to guests, going out of their way to make your visit wonderful. After eating your starters and mains you have options of a range of desserts, my own particular choice of poison being their Biscoff Milkshake. If you're not feeling sickory after you've eaten here then you're not doing it right. With generous portions and generally delicious servings you're certainly in for a beast of a treat.

Edit - Has really gone downhill. Every time we have been here in the past the service has been ok at best. However this most recent time it has been absolutely abysmal. We attempted to order two frozen raspberry daiquiris, a drink we have ordered multiple times in the past without issue, and this time we are told no. We settle on frozen strawberry daiquiris as an alternative... Which then take 10-15 minutes to arrive and by this point they are no longer frozen. Which wouldn't have been an issue apart from the fact the these ended up being extremely sweet; sickening even. But ultimately the two best drinks we have ever gotten. So of course we get a second round... Which equally takes 10-15 minutes, is melted, and this time is extremely tart and undrinkable. The corn dog starter is a solid choice. It's the only consistent dish. Our main was the single worse piece of garbage I've ever tasted. BBQ pulled pork and beans... Just without the BBQ, any form of juice or sauce, flavour, or pork... As it was mostly fat. Didn't really eat anything else on the plate for various reasons... Chips just don't taste good, the slaw is ok at best, and the pickles just get spicier and spicier. Both of us had a stomach ache at this point. Not a single member of staff bothered to check up on us or make any form of eye contact. We ended up leaving both of our plates there for a good 10-15 minutes before anyone even came over. Manager just came over with excuses as for the lack of quality or false advertising. Didn't want a fuss so just asked for the bill so we could leave... However they didn't bring the bill over. Instead we had to sit through the birthday routine only to get a birthday desert... With no cutlery. Staff ran off before we could ask them for anything and then ignored us. We ended up stealing a knife and fork from a nearby table just so I would have a chance at eating the donut, which had a mountain of cream on top, and ice cream. While I appreciate it was free, it really outlined how dire the service is. When we finally got the bill they did not even bring over one of the device to leave feedback as they usually do. Other tablets had the device so I suspect this was done to attempt to pad their numbers as we would have left a bad review. Hickory's has a great atmosphere with some great tasters however the level of service is lacking and the drinks are sub-standard.

Firstly, upon arriving, I noticed a dirty paper towel left on the seat at our table which was a bit of a turn off. Additionally, the toilet was quite dirty and could have used some attention from the staff. The restaurant was also quite busy, which resulted in long wait times for our food. While it was great to see the restaurant was popular, the wait times were a bit frustrating, especially considering the prices were on the higher side. Speaking of prices, the restaurant was definitely on the expensive side, which could be a downside for some diners. However, the food itself was very, very good. The flavors were full and satisfying, and I thoroughly enjoyed my ribs. Despite the high prices, I would say the food was still a decent value for money considering the quality. Overall, while the restaurant had its issues with cleanliness and wait times, the food was the standout feature. If you're willing to overlook some minor flaws, you'll be rewarded with some truly delicious BBQ dishes.

First time at Hickory's and it was really nice. We were told the protocol and was led upstairs on to the balcony . There was plenty of space between the tables and we had a great view down below.(great for people watching)The service was excellent with plenty of waiters to help us with our order. On the table you will find the Hickory newspaper which is actually the menu, nice touch. We had the pulled pork and the chicken burger ,both became with fries and then finished off sharing the waffle and ice-cream,it was a great meal. All round perfect.Just eaten at Hickory's again, this time sat on the outside terrace.Again the service was excellent, great food, free popcorn and 3 choices of Pale Ale.Big thanks to Charles who made this possible. The Big Pig burger and the Chicken burger was excellent as was the chips. We will return.

Absolutely loved this place. From start to finish it was brilliant. We went in early afternoon midweek for a late lunch and do not regret choosing this venue. Colette, our server, could not have been nicer. She always had a smile as she checked we had everything we wanted. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was very nice, the milkshakes and other drinks were amazing and the complimentary water and popcorn whilst also being in the "movie theatre" was great for the kids. We all left happy and went back a couple of days later for an evening meal which confirmed what a great place this is. We recommended to some family to visit and they were very grateful we suggested they visit as they had an amazing time as well. All in all, we will definitely be back for more fantastic food and marvellous milkshakes.
