So I've been a little selfish and kept this place to myself in the 10 months I've been working in Slough. Usually once a week to break the monotony I treat myself to dinner at Mori. I find that Slough doesn't offer much variety so Japanese food is a real palate cleanswer and injection of much needed healthy food.
Using today as an example and unfortunately my last week in Slough I opted to eat the Kimuchi as a starter which is a fermented cabbage with spices similar to Kimchi from Korea. It has complex flavours, tolerable spice levels, a real satisfying mouthfeel and amazing ability to satify a desire that only fermented foods can. It's so healthy and god for the gut. I followed this with the tempura soft shell crab which is delicious, fresh and not at all greasy. The dip is delightful and the salad garnish very tasty. I followed up with a main of sashimi which consisted or beautifully sweet prawns, bluefin tuna, salmon and seabass. Each fish was fresh and distinct in it's own subtle flavour.
The waiter is the same person from all 6-7 visits I've ever made. He's a real gentleman and a credit to the restaurant. I've witnessed him deal with a busy setting and always manage to be attentive and caring to all customers and on one ocassion a couple of weeks ago he even handled a rude customer with grace. Again, what a credit to the establishment.
The atmosphere overall feels authentic and I really love the kitchen. The chef is friendly however very busy. If he catches your eye he'll aknowledge you which is nice.
The drinks are good. Usually I get a Coke Zero but in the past have had excellent Sake. The offerings I believe are inkeeping to the food selection. Try the plum wine.
So there it is. My secret spot is shared for those interested. For me it is hands down the best spot to eat in Slough and perhaps my saving grace at times where the humdrum eat work sleep needed some stimulation.
I wish this place very well and will miss it.
Thanks for the great meals...
Read moreIt’s an average Japanese restaurant. Prices are displayed without the taxes so you might want to consider that. Sushi didn’t taste fresh and gave me an upset tummy. There are no pictures in the menu card that would help in deciding what you want to eat. Staff was helpful though. I love sushi so not going again.
... after your horrible response to my review I m rating it zero. As a customer I have an opinion on how I am being served and on the quality of the food and that s what i did. My comment was for you to improve and not to lash back on me (your customer). If you are only welcoming positive comments and lash out if there’s any negative comment then block comments section, please. Why should your customers not know what’s bad when you are ok for them to learn what’s good. I was very responsible with my comments and you have tried to directly attack on me by identifing what I had supposedly ordered. You dnt even care that your message will be read by potential customers who might not want to eat at your restaurant knowing how rude you are to your customers. In 13 years you have not learnt the value of customer service and how to take a criticism. Good luck with...
Read moreI got take-away for the first time. The restaurant is beautiful and cozy and service is kind and friendly. The takoyaki was absolutely delicious with the spicy cabbage on top.
I was excited to try the unagi, but I actually could not eat it at all because it was so full of bones so I was very disappointed. I've had unagi many times before in Japan and elsewhere, and there were always some bones, but this time there were dozens in every piece and I just couldn't eat it. I tried to eat it anyway because it was so expensive but the bones are painful lol. The eel sauce seemed very sweet as well but I think it would be nice for someone who prefers that, I am just used to a saltier umami flavor in eel sauce. The steamed gyoza also appeared to be fried and tasted like the brand I buy, as did the ponzu sauce, which was very disappointing.
The portions were very small, which I was not expecting because it was so expensive. I think I would want to try again but it is just so expensive for such small portions, I don't think I'll ever try again....
