I recently had the misfortune of trying the new âchickenâ burger at Pepeâs Peri Peri and let me tell you, it was an experience I wonât soon forget â although I wish I could.
From the first look, it was clear that this burger had never seen the inside of a chicken coop. Instead of the tender, juicy chicken I was expecting, I was greeted with a mysterious, spongy patty that tasted more like a science experiment gone wrong than any poultry Iâve ever encountered. Iâm not entirely sure what it was made of, but it certainly wasnât chicken. It might have been a mix of tofu, sawdust, and maybe a hint of rubber for that signature bounce.
The texture was disturbingly off-putting. A single bite was a struggle as I tried to chew through something that had the consistency of a well-used kitchen sponge. It didnât help that the flavour was a completely missing and they didnât even try to mask its true nature.
The bun was perhaps the best part of this meal, but even that was dry and stale, crumbling at the slightest touch. The lettuce was wilted and looked like it had seen better days â possibly last year.
As for the service, well, letâs just say the staff over the phone seemed as thrilled about the burger as I was, which is to say not at all. My complaints were met with a resigned denial and educating me on what chicken burger looks or tase like. According to the Maria or Ria over the phone in response to my complaint âyou ordered a chicken burger, but we gave you stake burger. Stake burger is a chicken burgerâ Flaming Idiots⌠numb nuts good for nothing staff.
In conclusion, I wouldnât recommend this âchickenâ burger to my worst enemy. If youâre looking for a real chicken experience, youâre better off with a rubber chicken from a novelty store â at least then youâll get a laugh out of it.

Read moreThe service was not friendly or polite. Me and my partner had to wait ten minutes to order and this was at 1am; where it wasnât particularly busy or a crowded restaurant. The food took ages to arrive and when it did arrive, it came on a dirty tray, the chips had oil bubbles on them, which meant they had been fried in old oil (my partner used to be a chef so he immediately recognised these bubbles on the fries). Then my partnerâs burger box had an eyelash on the burger. (It looked somewhat like an eyelash and we hope to God that it was ONLY an eyelash and not a beard hair or nose hair, etc). The floor was also slippery with grease and I slipped and injured my foot on the seat. The staff had such a carefree attitude and even as we complained, there was no empathy or compassion for what we had to endure. Me and my partner are regular customers at the Slough High Street branch but this branch has lost my trust and respect. Cannot stand this type of service...
Read moreOrder 2 meals via Uber eats. A Paneer Burrito with cheese and a Chicken Burrito Meal with cheese. Pretty much got just rice and paneer chunks in one and rice and chicken in the other. No kidney beans, no red onion, no tomato salsa and no cheese in either burritos. Very dry and bland. Even the Garlic Mayo dips were watered down. When I called to complain, at first the lady on the phone denied I ordered from their store saying my name wasn't on their system. Then straight after she said the people put everything in the burrito without even asking them. Wouldn't believe what I was saying and asked me to leave a review with pictures. Then ending the call with an attitude saying to request a refund with Uber Eats. Seems they are full of excuses before even investigating what happened. Guess I'll be going back to the Slough High Street Pepe's in future. Wont be ordering...
