The Golden City — Restaurant in South Holland

After seeing glowing reviews about The Golden City i decided to try the food while visiting friends in Spalding. I ask for a beef curry hoping that the meat would be nice and tender ehich i was assured it would be. It must be the worst curry i have ever tasted. No flavour and the meat was like chewing cardboard. The egg fried rice had no flavour and the pancake roll i also ordered was absolute rubbish. Ordered online via Bigfoodie platform expecting meal to be delivered. This was not the case as I ended up having to collect. Food wasn't ready at given collection time & had to wait for 10/15 mins. Food was ok (Ribs very fatty & fried rice seemed to have as many peas as rice - not keen on peas in my rice) but nothing to shout about & certainly not worthy of the praises sung by others. I am someone who loves Chinese food but unfortunately the food we had from The golden city really wasn't up to scratch! Crispy shredded beef was more like soggy shredded beef (however there was some flavour). The chicken in black bean sauce was so watery, that there was a puddle of it in the bottom of the plastic bag! Who goes to a Chinese and spends £20 and doesn't get prawn crackers free? Serious, £3 for some greasy prawn crackers?...
