Bombay cottage — Restaurant in South Kesteven

This used to be my favourite Indian restaurant in Stamford, up until I ordered a takeaway last Friday. I am vegetarian and have been for many years, so I order on the phone and not via just eat to reiterate my dish is to be just sauce with no meat.

I ordered a tikka masala sauce and ate about 1/4 of it. The next day I went to have my leftovers and noticed pieces of chicken in the dish!! I felt sick and then realised had probably eaten small bits of chicken the night before. Disgusting.

I threw away the dish and the accompanying dishes because who would eat dry naan and rice? I called them and they proceeded to imply I was lying, as they do not prepare the meat with the sauces. When I responded with the fact I have photos of it, they changed their tone and offered me £10 off my next meal there, I said this wasnt acceptable as I cant trust their food preparation practices anymore and I said I wanted a refund instead.

They accepted and I was told I had to come into the restaurant to get this refund, despite the fact I orignally paid over the phone but when I got to the restaurant they tried to refund me only for the sauce but I explained that I couldnt eat any of the meal and I was out of pocket much more than just the sauce. They finally offered a refund of no more than £10 and tried to give cash until I refused and then eventually I was given the refund on my card.

Their excuse was the chef had got the order mixed up and this was the reason for the chicken pieces, its very obvious the dish was made with chicken which was removed prior to sending it to me. I am highly allergic to prawns and this would be a different story if these has been incorrectly added.

If it was a “kitchen mix up” then I would have had whole bits of chicken in the dish and this would have been a genuine dish mistake and could have been rectified.

Watch out, bad food preparation and lazy approach to dietary requirements...

Bombay Cottage has just gone completely down hill. We HAD been regular guests at Bombay Cottage and realised toward the end of lockdown 2.0 that the quality was diminishing. We thought we'd give it a go to eat in again and it'll be last time we ate in. The service was diabolical and the owner wasn't having any of it when 2.5 hours later we finally left, bearing in mind over half an hour was spent waiting for our order (food and drink) to be taken and over an hour waiting for the only course we ordered, and we said we were really dissapointed to have been forgotten about. By the time it got to us the food was substandard. Literally watching people who were seated long after us getting served drinks and food long before us. Our meal came to an astronomical price of ~£80 for two of us, 2 meals, 1 rice, 1 bread and 2 soft drinks. When I questioned this also I was wrong because "[he] would never treat his customers badly." We've just had a takeaway thinking we'll give it another go after a good few months and jesus I'm glad we've found somewhere else. Bland, overpriced and not worth the effort. Chicken has clearly been frozen and possibly even recooked as it was so rubbery and came in boulder sized chunks! Sauces were all watery. Breads were undercooked and so stodgy. Clearly this place just doesn't care anymore and just wants to hike is prices hoping to survive on the tails of its previous reputation. Go somewhere else if you want a...

I am currently going through an extremely bad experience. After three years of only ordering Indian takeaway and sit in food at this restaurant in Stamford, I find myself in the middle of an argument as to whether or not my food is actually with me.

They had the cheek to put the delivery driver on the phone to me who said “I gave it to you” and then proceeded to explain to me for ten minutes how I was wrong and that my house has a blue door. My house has a red door!

They’ve just arrived again to check to see if it was me that they delivered to and I can hear them knocking on someone else’s door! 🙈

I got a very half arsed apology from the delivery driver. She informed me that it was a fresh takeaway...

On opening my bag of goodies it transpires that it isn’t a fresh takeaway I’ve been given but the one they delivered to the wrong house an hour ago. So not only is it nearly an hour late, it’s cold and SOMEONE HAS EATEN SOME OF MY NAAN BREAD.

Eventually, I received a fresh curry which nobody had eaten.

The quality of their food is great and I’ve only had good experiences in the past which is what gives them 2 stars not 1. However, please check who is delivering your takeaway and make sure they know where...
