Today I went to the London Inn for the first time in years, it hasn't changed much, there is a pub atmosphere when you come in, and we quickly found ourselves seating.
We had a very happy gentleman who came over and took our order, the food came out quickly and it looked lovely. My baby (just turned 1) was there and I ordered him the fish and chips from the childrens menu. I had a very nice 6oz steak, chips and a bit of rocket on the side from the 2 for £20 menu as did 2 of my 3 guests, the other ordered a cheese and ham panini from the same menu. We were celebrating one of their birthdays. We also ordered 3 pots of tea and 2 soda waters. When the gentleman came back he asked if it was good and I agreed, it was a very lovely steak.
Now it kind of went a little downhill as I realised that the birthday girl hadn't eaten much, her cheese and ham panini was very hard and dry, so she left it as she is not the type to make a fuss. When I went to ask for the bill he again asked how it was, I confirmed that the steaks were lovely but the panini wasn't and hadn't been eaten, he raised his eyebrows but didn't say anything. I will say that I wasn't expecting not to pay for the meal, but I also wasn't expecting for him to ignore my comment altogether. I also asked him if they had realised there was no pricing on the kids menu items, he said that alot of the menu is wrong, including some of the prices anyway and again just dismissed me. My guests couldn't stop talking about how rude this was.
I asked for a dustpan and brush so I could clean up after my child (as I always insist on doing, he is my responsibility) he told me he would do it and bless him he did, which I thought was really nice. Then he decided to tell me about a family he had asked to stop coming in as there children were so messy smearing peas on the windows and rubbing them into the floors on purpose, I said that if that was a case they sound neuro-diverse, which he said "no they just get their own way to much and are now spoilt". Which again made me not sure about this gentlemen. This also upset one of my guests hearing the conversation as she has neuro-diverse children and couldn't believe how dismissive he was but was happy to bad mouth them and their mum.
I rated it down the middle as it wasn't a particularly bad experience but I certainly won't be returning, neither will any of my guests. £60 was the bill, which 4 of the meals were as I said 2 for £20, which means that it cost £20 for one children's meal, 2 glasses of soda water and 2 teas - go figure!
I'm going to save my money and go elsewhere where I can talk to the staff without bring dismissed or have to hear moaning about...
Read moreVisited on Sunday 27 October 2019. Arrival - visited the downstairs bar, asked for drinks and for the table we had booked, told to go upstairs and were not allowed to order drinks from the downstairs bar. Upstairs bar - told that the table booked was downstairs, were allowed to stay upstairs when spotted a 5 seat table. Did not have one of the lagers upstairs so had to wait for onr to be brought to the table. We were made to pay when ordering the food, is that so we cannot refuse to pay for bad service and poor quality? My husband had a Guinness which was awful. Bar tender had not cleared the bar and stood leaning on the bar chewing his fingers and repeatedly touching his face. Sunday lunch - starters, we ordered tomato soups and tempura prawns, soup was terrible. Like watered down bolognese, prawns were lovely. We were given free round of drinks as soup was inedible. Mains - ordered Kings roasts as the menu states that you get 4 meats, meats listed on the menu are pork, turkey, beef and lamb. No lamb on our plates, when questioned the waitress said that the Kings did not include lamb, so it must be false advertising as we could only count 3 meats. After complaining our original waitress ignored us and we waited too long for plates to be cleared as she just kept walking past our table. Disappointing as we were visiting family and they recommended the London Inn. Will not be going back. Both my husband and I have worked in the catering industry and there was a severe lack of customer service...
Read moreMust say I’m so highly disappointed in the food & the service actually. Last time I came here it was unreal. Food was amazing. So I decided to to bring a couple of people to enjoy the food. I ordered what I had the first time. Fajitas I was so looking forward to it however the steak came out looking white. The staff was then extremely rude arguing with me telling me how it’s marinaded. Absolutely it may of been marinaded however it would be more red or brown once cooked. I was insulted. So the waitress after arguing with me for 5 minutes asked me what I would like instead. My chips was already on the table so as was other peoples food so I order tapas quick and easy so I could eat with the people I came with. She went to the kitchen which I thought anyway however someone a little more senior came over just as rude which was highly annoying so after arguing again with me for another 5 minutes he asked me for my order. Well I had made my second order 15 minutes prior to that so I was not prepared to wait any longer. So I had a plate of chips. Fuming to be honest won’t be telling anyone else about the place or it’s chicken looking steak,. Good look with the new kitchen because if it’s making red meats look white I advise you go back to the old kitchen. I’ll be sticking to cosy club from...
