The Raj Indian Cuisine — Restaurant in South Tyneside

I’ve just ordered a takeaway for the first time from this curry house 18:20pm — 27/7/24 and it is absolutely disgusting 🤢 As soon as seen the plastic container with my madras inside I said to my partner this isn’t going to be nice and it’s probably been microwaved… WAS I RIGHT !!! The curry has absolutely no taste, freezing cold, chicken hard as rocks with no tenderness to it whatsoever, and I’ve poured glasses of water from the tap with more consistency… just a watery bland curry no doubt from the ice where it has been stored in the freezer from the night before ! The rice was freezing cold and bland also with literally no taste, the chips were hard as rocks also and very under cooked, and the mixed kebab was just the same as all of the above. Never again will I order from here. Try the Dilshad next door if you want a decent curry or the star of India, both 10x better than this...

my goodness what has happened to this place. I went last week. It was freezing cold inside the restaurant. starters arrived, luke wark onion bhaji with a white gloopy sauce, limp side salad (if thats what it was) then a disastrous chicken jaipur curry. Hard onions, raw peppers and swimming in grease. The chicken was chopped up chicken tikka thrown in. Absolutely horrid. Id have been better off getting an Asda cook in sauce and making my own. Then the naan bread. Burnt on one side and should never have been served. To top it all a chef kept walking through the restaurant carring raw food. He looked absolutely filthy and the sight of him made me leave my meal, get the bill and just get out of there. To top it all I had an upset tummy for days after. I can't say it is definitely as a result of my experience here but I feel it is. used to love this restaurant but I wouldnt go back if...

Re-opened after moving from the old location. Same family service & excellent food. So nice to be back in our favorite Indian restaurant with the friends we have known for years. The Raj is every bit the same as the original Raj. The move from the old premises has taken over 2 years, & once the right premises were found The Raj was reborn. Really pleased to be back with the "Raj" family & absolutely thrilled to see the staff again. I wish every success to THE RAJ & I know it will be successful. To those who never experienced the original Raj, I suggest you try the new Raj. All the staff are super friendly & the food is superb. Go on treat yourself to a meal at THE RAJ, you wont be disappointed. We are so pleased to be able to experience the food & friendly welcoming staff...
