Blue Island — Restaurant in Southampton

My partner walks past Blue Island on his way to work and for many years wanted to dine in but never had the opportunity to. This was until he and I decided to try this restaurant out of curiosity. And were we glad we did.

The moment we walked in, it was like we were transported to someone's homely dining room in Santorini as the white and blue colour motif was reminiscent of the island. The main chef, who's behind the kitchen opening greeted us at the door. Staff overall were very friendly and welcoming.

Service was quick and efficient as well. I ordered the moussaka which was simply delicious- soft and fluffy with a subtle creamy flavour and at the same time packed with mince meat. The size looked small at first glance but it proved to be quite filling towards the end.

My partner, who had the chicken souvlaki, enjoyed his dinner all the same as the chicken was melt in your mouth tender and seasoned perfectly. All mains come with a generous portion of Greek Salad and crispy, fluffy chips. It was definitely well worth the money spent as servings were massive.

Some things to consider, this is a no debit/ credit card restaurant so try to find a cash point before going in. Toilets are after the first flight of stairs and are immaculately clean. Overall, this restaurant is highly recommended for those who love Greek food. We will...

Blue Island is excellent - we gather our friends and family together for most birthdays and celebrations there, including the night before we got married, and my upcoming 40th.

The decor is basic, and facilities rustic but acceptable - I'd been walking past it for years before even considering going in, because it is on a main route between bigger and brasher places, and looks so simple - but we have never been disappointed by the food or service, which is always excellent. The owner in particular makes you feel very welcome, and knew our names by the second visit.

We recommend the meze - it's reasonably priced, and each dish that gets brought to you is of a really high standard... there's a chicken dish that usually comes out near the end that is OH MY GOD so tender and tasty that it's making me feel hungry just writing about it.

WARNING: Try not to fill up on pitta bread and dips before the food comes out. It's a schoolboy error, and one that we make every time. What can I say about the food at this place , apart from FANTASTIC. I used to go to the Greek islands a lot but sadly have not been there for a few years now. Walking into this restaurant , I was immediatly taken back to the islands with the music and decore . The waitress was extremely efficient and helpful , and took our orders quickly . all the tables were soon full , and it was pleasing to note that there were Greeks eating there to , ( always a good sign ) And then our food arrived and all I can say is WOW It was just like I remembered it from Kefalonia , and took me straight back there in a instant , bringing back wonderful memories Three things I would recommend , First , book a table , as they turned a few unlucky people away.
