Another Wetherspoons I've previously been to, however didn't review. A decent sized pub, including an upstairs seating area and roof terrace, situated on the northern side of Southampton City Centre, just across the road from the north side of East Park. This pub is the nearest Wetherspoons to Southampton Central Train Station. It was not overly busy when I visited, and was easily able to find a table. However, I've been to Southampton before when the Football is on, and this pub can get very busy at those times. Ordered a Sticky Korean Chicken Bowl, chips and a pint of Leffe Blonde. Total was £10.02 On this occasion I ordered at the bar (the app doesn't take cash). A small wait until I was served. Food arrived in about 10 minutes of ordering. A good sized portion was given, and food was of good quality and presentation. Definitely worth a visit, if you are around the area.

It was a match day in Southampton so the place was absolutely rammed packed, but managed to find the last table outside by the entrance! They had loads of staff serving, so service was pretty quick when they were so busy. Food arrived speedily too, hot and tasty. (Comment about smokers, not the pub: A group of customers who decided stand by the entrance right by our table to smoke! The wind was blowing in our direction too! 😳 There were other diners behind us too. Luckily, they finished before food arrived, otherwise, I would definitely say something although I wasn't happy with the smoke billowing towards me before. Other smokers moved to the other side of the entrance, the pavements near the road. Much more considerate!)

Ordered breakfast and was told there would be a 20-30 minute wait on food. That's fine. Ended up waiting over an hour for breakfast, by which point it was nearly 1pm! My girlfriend's bacon was undercooked, and as you can see from my picture, my "toast" was just bread. Not only that, but our breakfasts were delivered without hash browns with no explanation. Had to track down a member of stuff who just said they'd run out (would've been nice if they said this when we were ordering) and offered to bring us another egg. The egg was delivered long after we finished eating the rest of our breakfasts. I understand that this is a cheap place to eat, but I normally get reasonable food in a reasonable time.

The large English breakfasts were good, the porridge was more like a lump of steaming oats stuck together, I fixed the porridge myself with some hot milk out of the hot drink machine.

However the hot drink machine ran out of milk and also the drip tray was over-flowing. I informed the girl in the wash up room to the drink machine not working and when the girl filled the milk up as I waited by it, she just nodded her head at the line of liquid pouring out of the drip tray and soaking into the carpet beneath, rather than emptying the drip tray. It seems to be an on going problem, as there are things growing on the carpet under this wooden hot drinks counter which were a source of concern/chuckles for the line of customers waiting for the milk to be filled up. A drain connected drip tray and a tiled floor would fix this problem, but it seems The Giddy Bridge management have not worked this out yet.

The local junkies are coming and going from the street to the toilets to get there fix, a problem over worked young staff will not fix.

It has to be said though, that the majority of staff in all Wetherspoons work very hard under demanding conditions and they get paid very poor wages for the amount of work put in. The problem of staff not fixing the little problems, would be easily fixed with a better wage, most of Wetherspoons staff are kids, poorly trained, poorly paid and poorly motivated.

In short Wetherspoons have set a nice price point for consumers wanting affordable food and drink prices over the last 20+ years, so it is hard to be overly critical of Wetherspoons pubs in general etc, but again, seeing the staff getting torn to shreds in the busy periods for a poor wage makes me glad to be long gone from working in...

Went into the pub today and for about 20 min there was a high pitch noise constant ringing . When asking why there was a noice the response was oh it’s the door on the basement. As it was driving me mad. “Within seconds it was turned off! “

The staff was all huddled together messing about by the door and joking around The chef even come out and said I hate making F-ing chips !

I had to ask for tissues to clean the table down!

I ordered myself some food, that was ok but when my freind ordered he wanted no poppadoms just naan bread with his curry. They brought out the wrong item. Then when we questioned them the lovey lady said no problem I’ll get that sorted.

2 min later the scruffy large bloke come over and started saying to me I said I wanted poperdoms not the naan.

Not only in front of people I was with the other customer. I was dressing a shirt and tie and was with some important business men.

I asked for gentleman why he was confronting me in such a manner. And being confrontational?

Needless to say he didn’t respond very well to that!

I’m extremely disappointed in the service I received today. We did not even get what was promised to us.

even the people on the table beside us was absolutely besotted by what had taken place!

Needless to say we didn’t order any more drinks. We left. Not only did he set off my anxiety which has a massive part in my mental health. But the gentleman should really question was it worth challenging and confronting someone with such mannerisms. Rather than just keeping a customer happy?

I look forward to a response.

Ps the only person who was nice was the young girl with the...

I was discriminated because of a disability I have. When I came here I didn’t expect much… it’s a spoons. I came for some food. Walked in did nothing, spoke to no one. Didn’t get served. I was told I was too drunk ( I wasn’t drunk I had one drink) they decided they didn’t like me because I had a disability and decided I was too drunk to be served… not drunk I have a disability. When we came in my friend who is also my carer told the bouncer she was my carer. Was that the reason? Because I have a carer to help me function. Probably. The Manager I guess was okay as he did APPARENTLY give me a refund. (Probably lied, we’ll see in a few day) however you could tell the manger was just being nice so I wouldn’t complain. Also whilst I was in there, constant stares from the people that worked there. I have never been so disrespected in my life, you caused me to have an anxiety attack ON MY BIRTHDAY. And completely ruined my night. Shame on you and your staff, you need to be trained on disability’s and also recognise people who are actually drunk, because I saw a LOT of people who were way to drunk, falling over, and they didn’t get kicked out? I do see this as an attack. You guys targeted me because I had a disability and you knew I had one so I shouldn’t have to...
