Terrible experience to the point I was not prepared to pay the full bill and didn't.
Once you work out where the entrance actually is (you have to go around the back through the cinema foyer) we were seated and ordered drinks (two simple pints of Corona) and some simple sides, fries and corn on the cob to accompany the meat that was circulating around the room. Our table was close to the bbq station, so they visited us first with the meat offerings, unfortunately that meant we got the charred burnt outer edges every time. The meat was mostly tough, dry and tasted, not surprisingly, of char. No sauces or condiments on offer, so you just have an empty plate with bits of meat cut on it, hardily a restaurant meal.
The drinks finally came after half an hour of waiting and eating bits of meat but still no sides. Finally after 45 minutes and after 3 different waiters asked us what sides we ordered, two plastic cereal bowls of soggy luke warm chips and 4 tiny pieces of corn in a foil takeaway tin arrived. By this time we kind of filled up on burnt meat and decided to order some cold, lighter sides such as olives and salad, these came after another half an hour and another 2 different waiters asking what we ordered. What arrived was pathetic tiny pots of food, like we were at a children's tea party.
Given the £31 per person price tag, which didn't include £15 for 2 pints of Corona, of which were grossly over priced themselves, we thought we have a last ditch attempt at ordering dessert. Again another 30 minute wait and another batch of tiny tinfoil takeaway pots arrived, with some kind of crusty coconut thing and another, literally a spoonful of tiramisu. Both desserts were disgusting, the tiramisu had an overpowering synthetic bitter taste and was in our option, inedible. The fried banana was Luke warm and soggy, nothing like the sweet, crispy fried plantains you'd expect from this region.
I'm not one to complain but the whole experience was well below standard and I was not prepared to pay full price. Our bill would have been nearly £90 with an added service charge which is completely disproportionate to the quality of food and service we received. I had to go up to the bar in the end to pay as we got sick of waiting at the table. Terrible experience.
Overall, really bad experience, save your money and go somewhere else. Difficult to find entrance, poor quality sides and poor portion sizes, terrible tiny inedible desserts, long waiting time when ordering drinks, sides or desserts. Orders don't coincide with meat so you don't get a meal, just bits arriving ad-hoc, it's all a bit discombobulated. Drinks overpriced, waiters had no initiative, couldn't recognise we had be waiting for sides/ drinks for a long time, just seem to walk around like zombies with sticks of...
Read moreUsed to visit quite often when they were in West Quay, it was hands down my favourite place to visit. The manager was always friendly, food was great quality and always kept coming round to serve.
Since moving, the place has gone downhill quite considerably. Albeit we had a large table booking for my birthday plus baby shower. Hot side dishes weren’t actually individually ordered or spoken about - they just ordered a few dishes for us. Chips, Sweetcorn and Mac & cheese. It would have been nice to order something I actually wanted. Meat: wow the quality was bad! Not to mention that compared to previous location, they hardly came round at all. When they did, it was with the same small selection. I still felt hungry when I left. Table: being a big table (around 12 of us) they put multiple small tables together, meaning that one end of the table was completely separate to the other and unless you actually walked over,‘you couldn’t speak to the other people in the party. Service: the service was friendly enough, no problems. However when it came to splitting the bill, the service charge AND tips were not shared individually, meaning that we had a £60+ bill to pick up as we were the last ones to pay and the rest had left. We tried to question this is as we were only expecting to pay for one meal (2 adults, I had a birthday voucher) but was told that it was their wages(!!!!). We ended up paying £100. Scandalous and felt like we had been ripped off! I tried to email and got an immediate response, but radio silence since the 8th of July. It really put a whole damper on what should have been a good celebration. To add, the manager also moaned at the person that made the booking in front of the WHOLE party as apparently she should have paid £5pp, not £5 for the table when she specifically asked on the phone if this was correct and was told it was!! She felt so awful afterwards like she had been told off. Overall I will not be visiting again and the rest of my party has also agreed. We all felt like we have wasted our money here and the experience was bad enough that it has put a damper on it. The fact that I have not had a response from my emails has confirmed...
Read moreAwful meat experience. It wasn’t busy inside but the staff went on the same circuit with every stick of meat, meaning our table ended up with the bottom fatty bits, as did the two tables next to ours.
We all looked at each other and discussed the same issue, the next time round we commented and thankfully the staff changed their routine.
Sadly the meat experience did not improve regardless on which part of the skewer it came from.
The beef was so chewy that my jaw still aches now from chewing for so long. The chicken wings looked like pork scratchings and yet still managed to be pink meat on the tiny insides.
The pork was drier than chewing a Jacob’s cream cracker.
I bit into the gammon and could instantly tell it was not cooked and so I spat it out back onto my plate - strangely this did not feel out of place or rude here.
When I spoke to staff, they actively encouraged us to complain on various review sites saying that the management had changed the meat supplier recently and the staff and kitchen chefs disagreed with the decision.
During a cost of living crisis, where families are watching their money, how can a restaurant like this actively serve food that I would not even dare give to my dog, tell you that they made a decision to but cheaper meat, but charge their customers the same price.
A few cheap umbrellas on the ceiling and a few weird glass screens of some Brazilian footballers does not make it an authentic or £45 per person worthy experience that even Gordon Ramsay would find hard to recover / other than throw out all of the meat and “tapas” as it has obviously been bought cheaply and then resided in a barely safe fridge for many years.
Avoid at alll costs - I really wouldn’t even wish this on my worst enemy.
I only took one pic and that was to send to my family laughing at my “glow in the dark” mushrooms - at least I won’t have to turn on my toilet light for the...
