Sea & Earth Fish & Chips Leek — Restaurant in Staffordshire Moorlands

No-Fish Fish! Just after 8.55pm on Sat 6 Sep, I called in for a small fish meal deal, which I occasionally have when I can’t manage a large cod, and a portion of scampi for my wife. The small fish deal is, from memory, £5.55 and the scampi portion is £6.10. The young lady took my order and charged me £14 something. She said nothing else other than to ask if I wanted peas, beans, or gravy.

Whilst waiting, I queried if I’d been charged correctly as I thought that she might have charged me for the scampi meal (£9+). She didn’t say that there wasn’t any coley but said that it was a small cod (or haddock, I can’t remember).

On leaving and perfectly politely, I requested that she told me, upon ordering, if my order couldn’t be satisfied or was to be varied rather than charge me and remain silent. She didn’t respond.

I toddled off home to my wife and we settled down in front of the television to watch a film and eat our food.

The chips were delicious, as usual, and my wife didn’t complain about her scampi but my fish was a different matter! I’m not sure how long it had been sat in the warmer but it was mostly batter; there was barely enough fish flesh for it to have constituted a couple of goujons.

I don’t normally bother writing to complain and nor do I go around posting negative reviews: I simply want the chippy to survive and do well as it’s on my doorstep and very convenient however I object to being totally ripped off and having service meted out in such a poor way.

I actually emailed Sea & Earth but, over a week later, I hadn’t received a reply.

UPDATE EDIT I have since been back and the experienced girl (she’s worked there for 5 years) was brilliant, no fuss with my ordering double fried and she was lovely and chatty.

I usually love this place for chips, as I’m really fussy about the quality. I like my chips well cooked and they double fry them for me here. Today (Sunday 9th March) I came in for double fried chips and sausage. The girl behind the counter was rude when I told her my order. ‘What’s them?’ I explained it’s where you fry them again, that they take a little longer, but it’s ok, you guys have always done them like that when asked. She said they don’t do that there and walked off to fetch the card reader, without checking with more experience staff or the chef if they could second cook my chips. I’ve been plenty of times, and I always get my chips double fried as I like them crispy. She was rude about it and just gave me normal chips in the end. Still tasted ok, but not the usual! The next time I go in, and that girl is behind the counter, I’ll be asking to be served by someone who knows how to serve. Other than that,...

Tonight my dad bought probably the worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life. We have been getting our fish and chips from George's for a very long time despite living further away and having many other fish and chip shops nearby. The reason we did this is because the fish and chips used to be of great quality.

Since the change from Georges to Sea and Earth Fish and Chips I've witnessed the quality of the food dramatically change. Fish and chips are either sold overcooked, or undercooked.

The reason I decided to write a review tonight is because I had the worst chips I've ever had. Usually chips from fish and chip shops taste better than oven chips... Not tonight! The chips were so undercooked it was like we were eating uncooked oily potato. The fish batter was also undercooked and not crispy. It was a very sorry meal, for a very dear price.

We're no longer going to support this business. The quality in food has dropped so much I don't want to risk it anymore. I'm not going to pay premium prices for food that is worse quality than stuff I can...
