[Jan 2019 - NB: this cafe has changed either late 2018 or early 2019. New owners(?) New setup etc. So many earlier reviews DON'T APPLY TO THE CURRENT SETUP. It's a pity it's still called Blackshaws (or just 'B'?), because the place is benefitting from earlier reviews that no longer apply. Anyhow, my review:] Nice place: the view of the market-place from there is nice and characterful, and the lady who served me had a very pleasant and helpful demeanour. But their so-called "large" latte is ridiculously stingy (tiny). I'm talking about half the size of a typical small coffee from the big coffee-shop chains, and yet it cost £2.75. Pointlessly stingy and overpriced, and okay tasting (but nothing special). I'M SICK OF THESE COFFEE SHOPS / CAFES THAT THINK IT'S OKAY TO CHARGE NEARLY £3 FOR A TINY CUP OF MILDLY FLAVOURED MILK! As I joked to the girl who brought me my coffee, "What's this, a tiny coffee to match the tiny tables in the place?" (Her reply - something along the lines of "It's like Miniature World" - suggests I wasn't the first to make such a comment.) Indeed, the tables in there are, weirdly, really small too: I couldn't comfortably get both my legs under the table at once without them pressing on the table legs. And yet it's not like they are short on space. Maybe this is one of the reasons the place felt to me as though they haven't finished furnishing it yet... Summary: aesthetically a nice setting, but small tables and very small, overpriced coffee. I won't...

While the entire menu was impressive, one particular item stood out for me—the frozen margarita. It was nothing short of fantastic, perfectly blending the right balance of flavors and a refreshing twist that complemented the meal beautifully.
In conclusion, La Capilla in Stockport is a hidden gem that offers both exceptional food and a charming dining environment. Whether you're a food enthusiast or simply looking for a great place to unwind, I wholeheartedly recommend giving La Capilla a try. Read moreIt was a good meal that tailed off drastically towards the end.
The cod, nachos, and tacos were good, whilst the cocktails were middling but decent for the price. The service then dropped off significantly, possibly because it got busier, and we were waiting for half an hour for the dessert menu. Eventually, we had to ask, and one was delivered to the table.
We ordered a shot of tequila, which was great, and the cheesecake, which was the first instance I've ever had to send something back to the kitchen when eating out. It was split, and I'd have been embarrassed if I'd made it, let alone served it. That they thought it acceptable to serve it and to charge someone for it isn't a great look with the quality control of the kitchen.
In all fairness to them, they were decent in rectifying it when it was brought up, and didn't charge us for it.
It's the second time we've been, and everything else was good enough to encourage us to come again. Hopefully, next time, this'll turn...
