Visited for the first time with my hubby early yesterday evening, what a fantastic homely pub this is. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel really welcome by the bar staff, we enquired whether food was being served and they happily confirmed they did from 5pm. We ordered a couple of drinks initially before finding a nice room to the left side of the bar with a welcoming real fire before sitting down to take in the great atmosphere. We loved the fact there was no music or tech devices allowed just good old conversation. We sampled a couple of meals from the menu with such a varied selection on offer, I had the Steak & Ale pie, Mash, seasonal Vegetables with Gravy and hubby sampled the Chilli, Rice, Garlic Bread and a side order of Chips. The food was spot on proper homemade mash and Chips (just like your mum used to make them), dessert was the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple Crumble, Custard (with a huge jug of extra Custard). All I can say is 'The Boars Head', Stockport is an absolute gem of a place, keep doing what your doing thanks to all the ladies who served us during our visit we'll definately be back. Mel & Steve...
Read moreI just went in there for a few drinks with a friend I haven't seen in a long time. While I was showing my friend some video from work - disturbing nobody around - this guy approaches me to say it's written on the coasters and everywhere that "it's a digital free zone" and I can't use my phone (?!!!) I get it you want to keep a "traditional" pub with worn-out furniture and carpets from the 1900s for the elderly locals who enjoy it that way. But telling people they can't use their phones - in the XXIst century!!! is simply a joke. What will you do when your regulars - who probably can't use a smart phone/ laptop and therefore hate technology - will...
Read moreThis Samuel Smith is a proper traditional pub and like all pubs should be. They don't play music, don't allow phones, messages etc basically it's a pub where you can chat and not have the disturbance of modern day technology. It's a very very old pub but the ales. Ipa's and their selection of Sammy Smiths whiskies and port etc are amazing. I highly recommend visiting and soak in the atmosphere. Me and my mate spoke to the lovely landlady who was sadly finishing after being there for 13 years. It was a great pleasure to have met her and chatted and wish her all the very best. We will be back without a doubt. Well worth a visit if you want a pub that is...
