Came here for Father's Day, hoping for a relatively good pub meal, but boy were we wrong.
The service started out alright, but it quickly went downhill, even though they weren't at all busy. They originally brought out one 3 sets of cutlery instead of 4, which we didn't think much of it at the time, however no one came back for over an hour, not even with our food.
One of us ordered a starter, however they ended up bringing it with the main meal. Not only this, one of us swapped out a salad for mushy peas, but they ended up swapping the chips out, so had to go up and ask for the chips.
The 3 of us who ordered a Sunday dinner were severely disappointed and 2 of us couldn't take more than a few bites before leaving it. Calling what we got chicken is laughable, as it was all bone with next to no meat on it. Furthermore the roasties were literally rock hard, and the single one that wasn't was full of grease. The food was also a little on the cold side.
One of us ordered a chicken snitzle (this was the one where they mixed up the salad/chips). The chips that did come were burnt and not tasty at all. The mushy peas were cold. The only thing that was kinda edible was thr chicken itself, and even that was a touch on the cold and burnt side.
Lastly where the food is concerned, there were no salt/pepper on the table, when other tables had them. The server didn't give us a chance to ask for any condiments before shooting back off to wherever she was staying hold up. We had to go to the bar to ask for this stuff.
Bare in mind that due to the day they were offering table service, which is why we waited to be served.
There wasn't any issue with the first round of drinks (except they put ice in the lemonade when we asked for no ice). We didn't get a chance to ask for more drinks until our food arrived (which took over an hour to arrive from ordering), even though we had all finished long before the food arrived. The second round however was an issue. Not only did they bring lemonade with ice again, but they only brought over lager for the shandy one of us ordered. Their excuse was they thought the lemonade was for the shandy, despite the fact it was the exact same order as the first round.
Definitely don't come here if you want even an alright time. All that can be said is the manager took off most of the food and 1 round of drinks...
Read moreI wouldn't say I won't ever try again. The staff were all really professional, smiling and friendly. The chicken wing starter was very tasty, the roast dinner however... Veg was ok, burnt and soggy in places, but everything was medium warmth. The parts which weren't burnt were dry and bland, because there was hardly any gravy on the food which should be illegal for a roast dinner! The sort of temperature you'd get from a quick blast in the microwave. The beef was the culprit for 2 stars loss here though... just look at the photo. I was nearly sick. Biting into the first lump, I felt the blood roll down my gums from it, and part of it was cold!?!?! I had just been asked before that bite if it was ok, to which I expressed, "All fine thanks", but that was up until I tried the beef. I spat the beef out into a tissue, it was one of the worst cooked roast beef meats I've ever had, and I eat out every day. Gordan Ramsey would have threw the plate at the wall. With benefit of the doubt and a lot of courage, i tried another part of beef from a different cutting. It took me 2 minutes to chew only a small part, which was also a bit too bloody, cold and like chewing on a silicon breast implant (not that I've tried doing that). I left the pub, trying to catch some eye attention from staff, but everyone was very busy, so I thought it's best to leave a note here and hope the staff notice. I will reiterate again, the bar staff were all excellent! But that beef let everything and everyone down. When most carverys you can get average around £5 which are all you can eat, and better quality than this, £14 Is nearly 3 times too much for this food (but to be fair that includes a small...
Read moreWe've visited The Plough a few times in the past month, after moving to the area. It's a lovely looking pub with a nice beer garden at the back. We've had positives and negatives on both visits though, with the negatives mainly down to the surly Maitre d/duty managers who were on duty.
Specifically today, after receiving a lukewarm welcome upon entering, we took our seats in the beer garden. We received fantastic service from Georgia, who even brought some water for our puppy. We both ordered from the £6.50 lunch menu, but when the bill arrived it was £19.50. Upon querying, we were told that our diet coke was not included in the deal, as only draught soft drinks were. We didn't specify bottled drinks, just asked for diet coke, but received them in bottles. The duty manager came out to explain that some people prefer to pay extra to have theirs in bottles. I'm sure loads are willing to pay nearly £7 extra for that bottled freshness! She then said that on this occasion she would give us the discount, but just to be aware in the future. I feel like WE should have been made aware when ordering. This manager also really hesitated when an elderly group of three asked if they could bring a seat from another table to a picnic table due to the back support, and said they could have it "for now". There were about 5 empty tables at this point and it just seemed unnecessarily officious.
It's a shame really, as I would now hesitate returning for food here, due to the unnecessary fuss, though we would maybe visit for a drink. Maybe Georgia could help her colleagues with some customer...
