Awful. Easily the worst bar customer service experience I have ever encountered. Champions league final, busy, obviously. Unacceptable service. People, including myself, were waiting 45-60 minutes to be served a drink. The manager here is utterly terrible at his job and obviously doesn’t care about it. A lady next to me kindly pointed out that us next to her had been waiting over half an hour after the manager went to serve her. He looked at me, and asked the people further down the front of the bar what they wanted and proceeded to pour their drinks with a smirk on his face. I feel bad for his staff as he made them look bad. Eventually a female member of staff served us and she apologised saying they were doing the best they can and only had five staff on. That’s fine, they were struggling. But the simple code of good bar work is simply keep an eye up. See who’s filtering through to the bar and try and serve constructively and as best to faces you recognise being there before another. These staff are not even aware of this simple thing. It makes their lives easier to do it. I was told by another female member of staff who overheard my complaining that I had “no idea” - well, I really do, after being in bar management and customer service through many of my years. The female member of staff who did serve us, got a drink from me as a thank you for serving us. She also gets the horrendously staffed venue half a star, don’t be fooled by the minimum one star review. It ain’t that good. I’ll sign off by saying that manager of this establishment is a man that should be focusing on a new career. Well away from such level above his capability and work station as bar management....
Read moreI am editing my original Rose & Crown review of 3 stars of 5 (from 2 years ago) to {4.5 to 5} of 5 stars. To be fair, my entire experience and available choices there was middle-managed by a 3rd party Study Abroad company. The initial rating loss of stars was either a typographical error and/or the emotional, collateral damage from the travel jet-lag of a physically challenged, nontraditional student of a certain age. I am thankful, especially in retrospect, for them (both the Study Abroad company as well as the Rose & Crown) being the vehicles that provided the possibility of such a rewarding, immersing, educational, and captivating adventure into the heart, soul, and birthplace of British Literature. I do not remember any negativity from the Rose & Crown, and my memories of Stratford-Upon-Avon were a fulfillment of a long awaited slot on my Bucket List. Please let this Edited Post reflect my Apology for the inaccurate initial rating/post; and my Gratitude to be able to share the experience of the locale's historical crux and its influences on worldwide cultural literacy. In the words of The Bard (in
All's Well that Ends Well
): "Love All, trust a few, and do wrong to none."I highly recommend indulging and rewarding yourself by visiting the Rose & Crown, and should the opportunity present itself I will travel there again. 'William S.' again captures the sentiment of this post when he penned, "I LIKE this place and could Willingly waste my...
Read moreA typical chain pub in a period building that tourists in Stratford Upon Avon would love, I mused with my wife that there's always a Rose & Crown in a tourist area.
The bar area was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly and helpful, the only thing that let it down was the toilets, they weren't very clean and the entry doors to them needed a real good clean as well.
We ordered food, the burger meal only comes with fries which for the money I found a bit poor, of course you're then offered side orders as well. I opted for extra onion rings and coleslaw.
When my order arrived the side order of onions rings was just two very small onion rings, so that was disappointing. My coleslaw wasn't brought out either and I had to ask for it. The burger and fries were fine though.
My wife ordered the Halloumi and Sweet Potato Koftas which was just OK really, the Koftas were pretty flavourless and really didn't look appealing at all; a brown paste on a stick. She only ate about half of one and I can't really blame her.
It's just pretty standard pub food, that was a little overpriced for what it was, though I do understand it caters largely for the tourist market and is priced accordingly to the area.
Nice to see a pretty decent selection of alcohol free/low alcohol options as well, as I don't drink alcohol I always notice there isn't usually a very good selection to choose from in pubs.
Not a bad visit all round, just wasn't that impressed...
