Review of my recent experience - beware , Cooper Rose have been made aware via the correct chancels and have failed to respond
I’m writing to make you aware of an incident that occurred on 10th November 2017 at the Cooper Rose in Sunderland between 9pm and 9.15pm, me and my girlfriend came to the Cooper Rose for food and were treated appallingly. We ordered some food and drinks and I had the misfortune of choking on some steak, if that wasn’t bad enough we were both asked to leave by your door staff.
To explain a little further this incident happened under the noses of your bar staff and nobody did anything to help me, I spent roughly 30 seconds – 45 seconds standing up chocking luckily (forgive the graphic detail) I managed to stick my fingers down my throat and push the steak down unblocking my throat to be able to breathe again, in the process of doing this I vomited on the floor a small amount and went to the toilets to try and recover, only to have a knock on the door by two members of door staff saying they heard I’d been sick and that I had to leave.
I explained to the door staff what had happened that I’d had a serious choking incident and that resulted in vomiting a small amount I was visibly shaken by the incident, the door staff were not interested in the events that took place and said it is protocol for me to leave, me and my girlfriend were escorted off the premises. What would have happened if a customer suffered from epilepsy having a seizure resulting in vomiting, would they be ignored and escorted off the premises?
Now this has left me feeling disgusted and appalled by the way we were treated, more so concerned to how your staff dealt with a chocking incident and I’m concerned about your policies of spotting and dealing with serious incidents like this Sujbconjunctional Haemorrhage (Chocking) where was your staffs duty of care? Just to expand on the seriousness of this incident some more the next day I woke up to burst blood vessels in both eyes and burst blood vessels around my eyes and black eyes plus trauma to my throat. I attended the walk in centre and my local doctors for medical attention and my symptoms are ongoing. I’m sure the full incident will have been caught on CCTV and I would encourage you to look into this as a matter of urgency and investigate because when this happens to another person they might not be as lucky as me to survive choking and have the further misfortune of ill treatment from your staff.
To help identify the incident we were sitting in the upstairs part of the building right in front of the main upstairs bar right in front of your staff I was wearing a dark navy shirt, I must also inform you that I’m considering taking legal advice for the safety of others I am left disturbed by this episode and I would first like to hear that Whetherspoons have to...
Read moreUsed to be a large building which housed a local doctor in the early 1900s, then in 1960s housed Durham Book Shop and Jude auction rooms. Why name it Cooper Rose? A doctor lived & held his surgery in the early 1900s. He was also Medical Officer for the town & among his duties in that capacity was to ensure that compulsory smallpox vaccination of all children was carried out. He used his favoured Cooper Rose vaccinator which was a pen-like instrument with a sharp point when carrying out this duty. Giving this place the name was possibly in recognition of the Doctor's main public task. The Cooper Rose hostelry has a good ambiance but can be a bit hectic with bairns from around 1230 to 1600 Nothing greatly wrong with the food but can often arrive luke warm and on a cold plate This probably down to having been cooked then left on a cold counter until a staff member is available take it to nominated table. Glass collection efficient untill it piles up and this a bad image. Appears a lot of staff averse to job of loading washing-up machine so collection point almost always heaped up and presents a danger. Prices are slightly more than Jameson's, the other Wetherspoons down Sunnyside in the town.. . Parking is relatively easy as there is a multi-story car park about 100 yards directly across the road junction towards Bishopwearmouth Green and on your right! Other parking can be had but street parking is normally at a premium. Wheelchair access is available and there is an adequate lift to other floors but would not recommend wheelchairs beyond 2nd floor as the beer garden can get crowded. If have wheelchair & wish to enjoy the outside weather in the 4 days when it gets sunny (joke), there is enough outside room to sit near the main entrance or to the rear of the premises. As with all Wetherspoons, it normally has 3-4 real ales changing the choice each month! Toiilets are generally kept...
Read moreVisited The Cooper Rose recently with family for a meal. After deciding what we all wanted I went to the bar to order. There seemed to be a communication issue with the Bar Woman, she kept repeating back to me the wrong things so to make sure she had the order correct at the end I went over the order once again. After quite a long wait- which I really don't mind as this usually suggests the food being prepared fresh. We were assaulted by screeching children who were allowed to run riot with no control from their parents who watched them throw food around, scream and shout and never even attempted to control their children or show any consideration to other patrons. I mean these kids were running about well away from their guardians and could and very nearly did cause an accident as customers had to avoid running into the kids as they tried to take drinks back to their table. A staff member came over and we expected her to at least ask politely to control their children and maybe inform the parents/guardians that they were in fact in a bar restaurant and not a creche, however the staff member just nonchalantly began clearing up the mess 'before it got tread in to the carpet' How about the other customers who we noticed were constantly looking over at the comotion and were obviously being distracted from their meals? Not exactly a nice relaxing environment to eat a meal. When the meals finally did turn up it was all wrong- every one of our meals wasn't what we ordered! At this point we all decided that we would never be coming back to the Copper Rose. Awful experience ruined a family get together. We ate up and left and won't be back! There isn't anything I can say positive about our experience at the...
