Sorrento Restaurant — Restaurant in Sunderland

We booked a table for 4 at the restaurant for an evening meal with family.

2 of our party were running late by 30 minutes. We asked for a quieter table as there was a party of 15 people in the restaurant at the time, to be told there weren’t any available despite us seeing several free in the next room.

From the start the staff’s attitude was horrendous. We ordered a bottle of wine with 4 glasses. The waiter asked us where the other 2 of our party were, we explained they were running late but would be here ASAP, and apologised for the delay. The waiter basically ‘told us off’ and took away the other 2 glasses.

Another waitress came over to take our order, we again explained we were waiting for other people but they demanded we order because they couldn’t wait. This was 7pm on a Friday evening - hardly near closing time! The waitress took our order and the food was rushed out very quickly. All very average food for the starters. The salad we ordered was fresh.

The waitress came over to us mid-starter and told us to ‘hurry’. We hadn’t even finished our starter and the main courses had arrived.

My partner ordered a steak - it was tough, gristly and cooked more than he asked for. We didn’t complain but he didn’t finish his food. The male waiter (acted like he was the owner?) came over and asked what the problem was with a bad attitude, then proceeded to give us a lecture about different cuts of steak! It wasn’t the cut - it was poor quality and poorly cooked food.

I had a chicken main course that was ok - a bit bland and needed a lot of seasoning for me to taste anything.

We were in and out of the restaurant in 40 minutes. The other 2 from our party arrived after 30mins and we had already finished eating. The male waiter again then came over to our table and shouted at us - asking why we had eaten so quickly?! It’s because you were rushing us through our entire meal!

We left and got some nibbles in Spoons instead!

I would have understood if they had a packed restaurant but after the big party left, there was only us and 2 other tables in the whole restaurant.

There is no reason for such an awful attitude from the staff towards customers.

We will never return and would recommend people think twice before visiting this place if you want...

14 of us came in last night 28/12/2022 @ 7.30pm for a meal, when we first arrived they were very nice & accommodating when taking our drinks order, however when the waiter i think was the Manager came to take our food order we found him very rude, abrupt & Cheeky, we had our starters which was rushed, one of our party was told she couldn't have chicken Kiev as the chef didn't like to do them because everyone complained. Then another 2 of our party asked for Tagliatelle carbonara, he told them would they not like Spaghetti Carbonara as one of the other of the party had ordered it & it was better for the chef. Then one of the party asked for a certain pasta without the chicken as she was vegetarian, he then replied r u sure, Well I think she knows she's definitely a vegetarian. Before we paid the bill which was a substantial amount, they turned the lights off in the restaurant. Can I just say we visited this restaurant same time last year and found Then that they were very rude to the point that they were nasty to my 7 year old grand daughter, And we said then we would never go back. However we gave them the benefit of the doubt & thought we would try again. Well we will not be returning and would never recommend this...

Food was nice. Got the early bird deal ,(just under £12 for a starter and main). Bruscetta and potato skins to start. Both nice, but first time I've had bruscetta with green peppers in.

Aribiatta for main, nice sauce and quite spicy if you like that. Kiev pizza, tasty and plenty of proper chicken on the top (not processed cubed chicken!). Tasty and good value for money. I note they also do takeout.

Service lacking. Seemed the waitress didn't want us there (older lady) (we were 2 adults, 2 young children). Felt very rushed from the outset wanted us to order quickly and hovering to clear, watching us constantly. Starter came out with bbq sauce instead of garlic, i tolder her straight away and she said i definitely ordered bbq 😂 after an awkward exchange she went and got a garlic dip for me instead.

Definitely won't be returning, and just a note if you go with babies there is no baby change facility so we used a blanket on the floor in the bathroom.

Have to say the younger lady behind the bar was sweet and attentive.

Overall food was nice but we dine out to enjoy a good service and sadly we didn't feel...
